Two Specialized Air Guns for Static Removal

EXAIR manufactures a range of Static Eliminator products that are all efficient, effective, and easy to use…none more so than the Gen4 Ion Air Gun. Consider:

  • It’s “plug and play,” all the way.  Connect the cable to the Power Supply, and hook it up to your compressed air system, and you’re ready to go.
  • It’s efficient and quiet.  The high velocity jet entrains an enormous amount of air from the surrounding environment, where it’s ionized and ready to eliminate static charge quickly and effectively.
  • Instant static dissipation, at your fingertips (literally) – squeeze the trigger to blow ionized air, anywhere you want (well, within the reach of the 10 foot cable, anyway.)
  • This is our rugged, industrial use model which can be seen in assembly, packaging, painting/coating and plastics processes.
Model 8493 Gen4 Ion Air Gun Kit comes with everything you need, right out of the box. Just add compressed air.

Again, the Gen4 Ion Air Gun is just one of our Static Eliminator products.  Another handheld Static eliminator is our Intellistat Ion Air Gun, this product is more geared towards clean room type applications.

EXAIRs’ Intellistat Ion Air Gun has earned a Class 5 Cleanroom Rating making it ideal for static elimination in cleanrooms for sensitive processes. There are manufacturing processes that require certain cleanliness standards for operation in such as scientific research, solar panel manufacturing or biotechnology industries. This means that any tool or material you use in this process has to meet a certain standard. EXAIR’s Intellistat was engineered to do just that.

EXAIR Intellistat Ion Air Gun

The Intellistat Ion Air Gun is a patented handheld air gun for static elimination in sterile environments and clean rooms. This lightweight tool provides rapid static decay with a simple squeeze of a short-throw trigger reducing 5,000 volts to 500 in under second. Furthering the Intellistat’s utility, it has now been awarded the ISO 14644-1 Class 5 rating for clean rooms and controlled environments making it the perfect tool for electronics manufacturing, testing facilities and laboratories.

The Intellistat is the ideal solution for static elimination in your sensitive processes. Learn more about the Intellistat as well as the rest of EXAIR’s large line of static elimination products at www.EXAIR.com or by contacting any of our Application Engineers.

EXAIR Gen 4 Power Supplies

EXAIR offers systems for total static control. When static is a problem on moving webs, sheet rock, three dimensional parts, extrusions or packaging, EXAIR has a solution. The Gen4 static eliminators (also called ionizers) will eliminate the static charge. The shockless ionizers are use a power supply and produce a bulk of positive and negative ions. The charged surface attracts the appropriate number of positive or negative ions from the ionizer to become neutral (discharged).

Gen 4 Power Supplies

The two and four outlet Gen 4 power supplies have selectable voltage which allows you to choose input voltages of 115 VAC or 230 VAC. The modular power cable with electromagnetic shielding protects sensitive electronics against electromagnetic interference while easing connections and routing. One cable is for domestic USA power outlets and another is included to facilitate international outlet plugs. An integrated fuse on the primary protects against voltage spikes.

The two and four outlet selectable voltage Gen 4 power supplies require an input of 115VAC, 50/60 Hz or 230VAC, 50/60 Hz. A 6′ (1.83m) modular power cord and lighted power switch are included. Power supplies are UL Component Recognized to U.S. and Canadian safety standards, and are CE and RoHS compliant.

One power supply is able to power up two or four Gen4 static eliminators, which minimizes the space required for installation. EXAIR will build custom length cables to minimize the number of power supplies needed when products are spaced out. Each power supply can power up to 100′ of total cable length from any Gen4 static eliminators which are connected. For example, a two outlet power supply can have two Gen4 static eliminators with 50′ cables installed. The integrated high voltage connections to accept any Gen4 static eliminator are made from stainless steel to provide durability.

Model 7960 Gen4 Power Supply (top) has two ports; Model 7961 (bottom) has four, depending on how many Static Eliminators you wish to operate from the same Power Supply

Combining our engineered airflow products with ionizers gives the ability to eliminate a static charge quickly from from great distances. Laminar flow airstreams make it possible to blow away contaminants and eliminate the charge that attracts them. Understanding Static Electricity

Have you ever walked across the room to pet your cat or dog and got a shock instead? Ever taken off your shirt on a dry winter day and had a “hair raising” experience? How about rubbing a balloon on your shirt and sticking it to the wall? This is static electricity! Before we can understand Static Electricity we need to know the basics of atoms.

All physical objects are made up of atoms. Inside an atom are protons, electrons and neutrons. The protons are positively (+) charged, the electrons are negatively (-) charged, and the neutrons are neutral.

Therefore, all things are made up of charges. Opposite charges attract each other (negative to positive). Like (similar) charges repel each other (positive to positive or negative to negative). Most of the time positive and negative charges are balanced in an object, which makes that object neutral.

Static electricity is the result of an imbalance between negative and positive charges of an object. These charges can build up on the surface of an object until they find a way to be released or discharged.

The rubbing of certain materials against another can transfer negative charges, or electrons. For example, if you drag your sock on the carpet, your body collects extra electrons. The electrons cling to your body until they can be released. As you reach and touch your furry friend, a shock occurs. This is just the surplus electrons being released from you to your unsuspecting pet.

Static

And what about that “hair raising” experience? As you remove your shirt, electrons are transferred from the shirt to your hair, creating the hair raising experience! Remember, objects with the same charge repel each other. Because they have the same charge, your hair will stand on end. Your hair is trying to get as far away from each other as possible!

When you rub a balloon against your shirt and stick it to a wall, you are adding a surplus of electrons (negative charges) to the surface of the balloon. The wall is now more positively charged than the balloon. As the two come in contact, the balloon will stick because of the rule that opposites attract (positive to negative).

When you relate these too your manufacturing environment and we talk about dust, hair, and fines sticking to your product then EXAIR has the answer for you with our GEN 4 Static Eliminating products. EXAIR Static Eliminators (also called ionizers) can eliminate the charge. These shockless ionizers are electronically powered to produce a bulk of positive and negative ions. The charged surface attracts the appropriate number of positive or negative ions from the ionizer to become neutral or balanced.

If you have a situation where static charges are causing problems with a product finish, print quality, sensor readings, etc. and would like some assistance solving the problem please call EXAIR and ask for one of our knowledgeable Application Engineers to discuss the right product for your application.
