EXAIR Founder’s Day 2022

EXAIR celebrates Founder’s Day each year on February 22nd (or the closest working day) in order to commemorate the birthday of our founder, Roy Sweeney.  He founded the company in 1983 and drove EXAIR to become the strong, successful and innovative company that it has over the years.  Roy led EXAIR for 33 years.  Today would have been his 88th birthday.

We choose to make this day a celebration and a day to mark our ongoing commitment to the service of others in keeping with the values that Roy and his wife Jackie felt (and feel) very strongly about.  Their humble approach to helping others provides a lasting lesson for us all.  We continue to look outside our company, outside ourselves and outside our immediate surroundings to do what we can to improve the world around us.

This year, we have selected these organizations to receive donations as part of our Founder’s Day celebration:

In addition, EXAIR has also established an Employee Volunteer Program that enables every full-time employee with at least 90 days of service to volunteer with organizations of their choice during the normal work week with full pay by EXAIR.  As we see further normalization regarding COVID, we expect that we will see more and more of our team members collectively working with organizations in our community to improve the lives of those in need.

So, as we celebrate Founder’s Day today, we wish Roy a happy birthday.  We miss having him here.  We remember what he did for all of us and for countless others.  And we pledge to continue his commitment to helping those who need it.

EXAIR Wishes You a Happy Independence Day

Independence Day

Every year on the 4th of July, Americans celebrate Independence Day with family, cook outs, parades and of course fireworks.  It is time to rejoice and reflect on how our nation began in 1776 by declaring our independence from British rule.  Did you know the United States of America started with 13 states? Here are some other interesting facts about Independence Day:

  • John Hancock was the only person that signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776. The 55 other people signed afterwards.
  • The average age of the signers of the Declaration of Independence was 45. The oldest was Benjamin Franklin at the age of 70.
  • Only two of the signers later became President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. They both died on July 4th, 1826.
  • Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President, was born on July 4th, 1872.
  • Benjamin Franklin suggested the turkey as the national bird, but was overruled to make it the bald eagle.
  • Every 4th of July, the Liberty Bell is tapped, not rung, thirteen times in honor of the original 13 states. I can’t blame them, it has a crack in it.
  • July 4th was declared a holiday in 1870, 94 years after the declaration.
  • Americans consume about 155 million hot dogs on Independence Day, the biggest hot dog holiday of the year. (And it is one of my favorite foods)
  • Fireworks were first used to celebrate the 4th of July in 1777 in Philadelphia.

Happy Independence Day From EXAIR!

Please Note: EXAIR will be closed July 4th in observation of the United States Independence Day

Summer is my favorite time of year. Warm weather, hanging out by the pool, and enjoying the outdoors (weather permitting of course). It’s also the time of year when my favorite holiday occurs, Independence Day. EXAIR will be closed on July 4th in celebration of Independence Day. On this day 243 years ago the Declaration of Independence was adopted, marking the official legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain.

Although today we celebrate on July 4th, Congress actually voted to declare independence two days earlier on July 2nd. If it were up to John Adams, that would be the date we commemorate to this day. He wrote in a letter to his wife that this would be the most memorable day in the history of America, to be celebrated by pomp and parade, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other. In protest of July 4th being designated a federal holiday, he was reported to turn down invitations to appear. Coincidentally, both he and Thomas Jefferson both passed away on July 4, 1829 on the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

I imagine the celebrations looked quite a bit different back then, but today many of us will spend time with our family and friends enjoying some BBQ. Parades and firework shows are also in abundance as we celebrate together as a country in unison.

The very same can be said of EXAIR, built on the courage, imagination and determination of our late founder Roy Sweeney. Without his willingness to take risks and build his version of the American Dream, we would have never come to be.

So while we celebrate, hot dog in hand, take a moment to reflect on what it means to be an American. Enjoy your right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. To all of my fellow Americans on behalf of EXAIR, Happy Birthday to US!

Celebrating The Chip Trapper

NFL Football season is officially under way, and my hometown team, the Cincinnati Bengals, are off to a solid start. With less than a minute left in the game on Sunday afternoon, an interception stopped the New York Jets’ final drive, and Who-Dey Nation began to celebrate the win. Some (not me…not as far as you know) may have even celebrated in accordance with a hallowed Bengals tradition:

While I won’t celebrate just ANYTHING (although I do indeed hold prompt service at the deli counter in high regard,) you might get me excited enough to do the Ickey Shuffle if you start talking about how much you like your Chip Trapper.  Just like a caller did this morning.

Now, I’m unabashedly proud of all of our products, so I’m not going to come right out and SAY that I have a favorite any more than I would publicly proclaim one of my children as my favorite.  Although, in all fairness, they’re teenage boys, so at any given time, one of them is quite likely edging out the other on The List.

But back to the Chip Trapper – this morning’s caller just wanted to order some more Filter Bags, but in the midst of our conversation, he started “writing the commercial” for the product:

*It’s extended the life of their coolant – regular removal of solids and particulate contamination means the coolant stays clean & effective.

*It ensures the reliability of the machine – clean coolant doesn’t clog the lines, which WILL wreck the part you’re machining, and probably the tooling too.

*It eliminates odors – OK; nobody ever brags about a “spring fresh” aroma in a machine shop, but bacteria-laden, rancid coolant is the WORST.  Nobody needs to be working around that.  And since that bacteria needs solid surfaces to grow on, filtered coolant is fresh coolant.

*It’s EASY (part 1) – it’ll pump 55 gallons of dirty coolant into the drum in about 90 seconds.  Turn the valve and reverse the direction of the Reversible Drum Vac, and it’ll pump freshly filtered coolant back into the sump just as quickly.

*It’s EASY (part 2) – the Filter Bag holds over 5 gallons (almost 3/4 of a cubic foot) of chips, and the system comes with two of them so you can use one while cleaning out the other.
