The Many Faces of Santa Clause

I am fascinated by the various Christmas traditions and faces of Santa Clause throughout the world.   My favorite Santa version  is known as Ded Moroz from Siberia. He looks a bit intimidating but that may be an incentive as to whether or not you choose to be good or bad.

In Yugoslavia, they kind of roll  what we celebrate as Halloween, Mother’s Day and Christmas gift giving all in one. On the second Sunday before Christmas, the children creep in and tie their mother’s feet to a chair and shout, “Mother’s Day, Mother’s Day, what will you pay to get away?” She then gives them presents. Children play the same trick on their father the week after.

The children celebrating Christmas in China decorate trees with colorful ornaments. These ornaments are made from paper in the shapes of flowers, chains and lanterns. They also hang muslin stockings hoping that “Christmas Old Man” will fill them with gifts and treats. Santa Claus is called Dun Che Lao Ren which means “Christmas Old Man.”.

In China they call this season the Spring Festival and celebrate with many festivities that include delicious meals and pay respects to their ancestors. The children are the main focus of these celebrations, they receive new clothes and toys, eat delectable food and watch firework displays.

Catered lunch of Christmas past.

The one thing that is common among all traditions is…Food.  And I’m here to tell you there is tons of food around the office during the holiday season and the company caters in a lunch.

In the past, after all the binging is over, we have had diet competitions. I’ve never been successful with that and just carry the extra weight for the remainder of the year. Yep, each year I add another pound. I’ve been with EXAIR for 20 years and have put on 20 pounds.

During this holiday season, more than ever, our thoughts turn gratefully to those who have made our success possible. Thank you and may peace, prosperity, & happiness be yours throughout the holidays and new year.

Experience Is What Matters

Collectively EXAIR’s application engineers have 45 years with the company and 100 years of industrial experience. Each application engineer comes to us with “shop” experience and a college education. Between the two disciplines (real world and college experience), we can marry the practical with the hypothetical to find  the best answer to your compressed air challenges.

eng group

For me, I have industrial engineering and business management degrees. I’ve been a machine shop manager, manufacturing engineering manager, and a marketing product manager. Kirk comes from a family of industrial distributors and sold mechanical power transmission equipment for years, he also has a masters degree. Brian has mechanical engineering technology degree and was a service tech for a machine tool builder. Russ is schooled by the U.S. Navy in nuclear technology and has years of experience in the pump industry. Dave has a degree in mechanical engineering and worked as an application engineer prior to coming to us. Neal has a degree in industrial technology and worked his way through the ranks in the injection molding industry prior to EXAIR. Lee has an electro-mechanical engineering degree which he finished while working as an automotive technician and is also a six sigma black belt.

All this knowledge and experience is not confined to one individual.  Our cubicles are arrange so as to be in ear shot of one another. When you call in for technical support, you not only have the expertise of the engineer you are talking with,  but the entire engineering staff.

Being on the technical support line, we come into contact with hundreds of engineers from most every facet of manufacturing.  Be it industrial, textile, automotive, mining, power generation, paper/pulp, pharmaceutical or medical, we have had experience in serving these customers and more.

Need to update your compressed air system? Are you wanting to save energy by reducing you compressed air consumption? We would sincerely welcome the opportunity to serve you. Call one of our application engineers at 1-800-903-9247 [list of engineers ]

30 Years and Going Strong

brylcrene

I’ve been derelict in getting my hair cut and one of my co-workers made comment that I needed to use some Brylcreem. I chimed in with the  Brylcreem jingle from back in the 50’s. Two of the younger co-workers had no idea of what we were talking about since this product was popular 30 years before being born (watch video). Yes those were simpler times and the graphics were not as elaborate as they are today. Never the less, if they are remembered 30 years later, their message had to have been effective.

While some commercials stick in our minds, others rise to the pinnacle of fame such as the sound track for the famous Alka-Seltzer” No Matter What Shape  your stomach is in” commercial. It actually made the top ten music list.

EXAIR is completing its 30th year anniversary and I am coming up on my 20th year anniversary. We have our own print ads which stuck in people’s minds and one or two that may be famous, perhaps infamous (and never made the cut). That is part of the beauty of EXAIR, a company that allows us to let loose now and then so we can produce a spoof ad or two which may include a boss speed skating against Apolo Ohno or a good-humored co-worker playing Jack Black’s role in Nacho Libre (internal office consumption only – sorry). Looking back over my tenure with EXAIR, I’ve experienced the growth of the company into the premier supplier of Intelligent Compressed Air Products®. During that time we have expanded the product line which was originally covered in only 48 pages of a  hand-made spiral bound catalog to our current 168 page full color catalog.

To compliment the catalog, we have an internet presence www.EXAIR.com where drawings and technical is downloaded. We are also on twitter and Facebook. Not to mention this 65-year-old blogger.

We sincerely welcome the opportunity to serve you with your compressed air product applications.

Black Friday – Nothing New

Black Friday love it or hate it, it’s just a way to drum up Christmas sales. The concept is nothing new though. In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt attempted to move the official Thanksgiving date to earlier in November to encourage a longer Christmas shopping season as a Depression recovery strategy. His idea was shut down by Congress, and the official date was declared permanently as the fourth Thursday in November via Public Law #379. So today we have Black Friday.

I do not know about you, but my idea of shopping is an internet connection and a credit card. I do not have to fight the crowds and all the traffic. Being an engineer enamored the details of the product, I can find more information on the web than from some part time clerk working the aisles.

You can shop for your compressed air products on EXAIR’s website. There you will find specifications on all our products, you can download 2D drawings or 3D models, catalog pages, etc. from our Knowledge Base. If you need assistance, we have a team of Application Engineers available by phone 1-800-903-9247, email or  by live chat – click the chat button in upper left corner.

I am an application engineer and would be happy to answer any questions or concerns that you may have.
