Keep it Cool…And Clean…And Dry

Summer is in full swing for us in the U.S.  The temperatures and humidity are high, the sun is shining, and EXAIR Application Engineers are calculating heat load for overheating electrical enclosures to help customers determine which Cabinet Cooler system will remove the heat and eliminate associated problems. With the variety of applications for EXAIR Cabinet Coolers comes a variety of problem solutions.  For example, we may cool the temperature of an enclosure, and, we may also prevent dust or water from entering the enclosure.

This is exactly what EXAIR can offer in the application shown above.  As you can see, the enclosure has remained open in a dirty environment in an attempt to solve an overheating condition.  This, in turn, has allowed dirt from the surrounding area to enter the enclosure and infiltrate the electrical devices.  An attempt to solve one problem has created another.  By installing an EXAIR Cabinet Cooler, this end user is able to cool the electronic components AND keep the enclosure contaminant free, solving two problems with one device. Also note that keeping an electrical panel doors open exposes personnel to dangerous situations if they come in contact with the exposed wires and connections.

EXAIR Cabinet Coolers have the potential to end an overheating condition AND prevent dirt from entering the enclosure by creating a slight positive pressure inside the cabinet. There is no need to worry about water entering the enclosure if you are in a wash-down or high humidity environment because they are UL listed for NEMA integrities of NEMA 12, NEMA 4 and NEMA 4X. NEMA 12 integrity protects against dirt, dust, and oil. NEMA 4 integrity is dust tight, oil-tight, splash resistant and indoor/outdoor service. Gardens & (Failed) Quick Fixes

With the stretch of hot weather we are having and the rain we got last week my garden at home is absolutely out of control.  At least it was until I spent a good two to three hours picking weeds and grass out of the garden. This year we doubled the size of our garden from last year.  When I did the garden last year I dug out most of the sod and it really helped cut down on the grass in the garden.  When we expanded this year though I was just a little too busy to get the sod dug out and when a good friend tilled the garden for me he churned all the grass into the area.   This was fine as he did it for free and I didn’t have to do it; but now I am paying for it.   The grass that was in that area is now growing faster than anything else in my garden and was actually choking out all of the onions I had planted.

First I tried to quick fix problem by throwing more dirt over top of the grass to smother it.  That worked for about a day.  So I did what I had to do, I got in on my hands and knees and picked every little bit of grass out, roots and all.   By the end of the next day the onions had all perked up, the tomatoes continued blooming and the zucchini look to be the first vegetable we will enjoy eating.

The fact of the matter is that I didn’t take time to make sure everything was in order before expanding the garden.  I didn’t remove the sod, communicate that I preferred the sod out, or mention to my friend that if not removing the sod please chop it up well (a hard thing to state when your friend is doing you such a big favor).  Because of that I had to dedicated a good part of my day at home working on a problem I could have prevented.   The fact of the matter is a quick fix is just a temporary fix and it is only a matter of time before the real problem reappears and demands your attention.

The same can be said when you band aid an electrical cabinet that is overheating by opening the door and putting a fan in it.   That doesn’t solve the problem, it may go away for a short moment, but then it will come back even worse. A fan will provide some temporary cooling but it will also deposit dirt and debris on to the electrical components (all that grime on the fan blades and guard is the same stuff being blown into your cabinet) which causes them to run hotter, short out, or burn.  So instead of using a quick fix give us a call and let us help you determine the correct Cabinet Cooler System to cool your cabinet and get the problem solved the right way. Cabin Fever

According to Webster, Cabin Fever is irritability, listlessness, and similar symptoms resulting from long confinement or isolation indoors during the winter. I definitely have it! My doctor gave me several ways to overcome it.

  1. Get outdoors – I did because I had to shovel out the drive. It did nothing but increase my irritability.
  2. Get Plenty of Sunshine – Not much of that around here. Sitting under a lamp did not seem to make much of a difference.
  3. Stay Active – I tried the treadmill but that is more boring than being cooped up.
  4. Make Your Environment More Cheery – I though about hanging up my sports memorabilia then I remembered both my baseball and football teams were one and out. How depressing!
  5.  Grow Indoor Plants – Hmm… not a good idea! Scratch that.
  6. Engage in Goal-Oriented Activity – I set a goal to beat the game Candy Crush. Let’s say it did not do much for reducing irritability. Need to get a new phone.
  7. Eat Good Mood Food like Turkey – Fried turkey legs and beer. Now that was the ticket!

So if you have Cabin Fever, you will have to find out what works for you. Rest assured that summer will come.
