EXAIR’s Reversible Drum Vac is one of our most popular products, and with good reason. If you are looking to quickly and easily fill (or empty) a drum with water or a similar liquid, EXAIR’s RDV is undoubtedly the fastest and simplest solution you can find. Coming in 5-, 30-, 55-, and 100-gallon options, the -96″H2O suction head generated by the RDV is perfect for any typical industrial housekeeping or fluid handling application.
Below you will see a short video showcasing how easy the RDV is to install, and just how quickly it operates!
There are some situations, however, where you need a little more power. In scenarios like these, where the liquid exhibits increased viscosity or falls below standard grade, we offer a High Lift Reversible Drum Vac. The High Lift RDV was specifically designed to address these challenges. It produces a suction head of -180″H2O and is equipped with a 20-foot vacuum hose. The High Lift RDV can handle liquids with a viscosity of up to 1,400cP.
As with the standard RDV, the High Lift RDV is compressed air operated, so there are no moving parts, or electrical motors or bearings to wear out. As long as you supply it with a clean and moisture-free source of compressed air, the EXAIR RDV will run for years and years to come.

Most of us think of the electric-powered device that we clean our carpets at home with when we think of vacuum cleaners. The idea of utilizing vacuum in cleaning applications, however, actually predates the widespread introduction of electric power by a couple of decades. The original idea was to marry a manual vacuum-generating device with an existing carpet sweeper that employed a beater brush which turned as the sweeper was pushed across the floor, collecting debris from the floor in its bristles, and depositing it into an internal reservoir. The first “vacuum cleaners” relied on a bellows, piston cylinder, or other such device that was operated by hand, foot – or, according to one source, a rocking chair – to generate a vacuum. It took one person to operate the vacuum-generating part, and another to push the sweeper, though, so they weren’t very popular at a time when folks were generally looking for labor-SAVING products.
Today, of course, the availability of electric power is a given in any industrial or commercial facility, so these manually driven units have long gone by the wayside. That’s not to say that they’re all electrically driven, though – in fact, the most common alternative – compressed air-operated industrial vacuums – are widely used in a variety of situations. Their popularity is due to several key advantages they have over their electric-powered counterparts:
No electric motor to burn out.
No moving parts to wear or break.
No impeller to clog.
The next time you need to replace a failed electric powered vacuum, consider an EXAIR compressed air operated model!
Whether your needs are for a liquid vac, dry vac or both, EXAIR has a comprehensive selection of Industrial Housekeeping Products to choose from. They incorporate a number of features that are quite beneficial in a number of industrial settings:
Filtered exhaust:
Heavy Duty HEPA Vacs offer powerful vacuum performance, superior resistance to abrasive materials, and High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) cartridge filters that are 100% tested in strict accordance with IEST-RP-CC-007 for a minimum of 99.97% filtration at the 0.3 micron level.
Most EXAIR Industrial Housekeeping Products are designed to fit standard size drums (30, 55, or 110 gallons). The lids for the 30 & 55 gallon models have a simple hand-operated latch ring to facilitate drum removal. The 110-gallon ones have a bolt ring, so you do need a wrench for those.
The particulate filter for the EasySwitch Wet-Dry Vac is accessed with a rubber-handled latch to lift the hatch & remove the filter.
Cross-contamination prevention:
Since they’re made to fit standard-size drums, you can simply remove the lid assembly from any EXAIR drum-mounted Industrial Housekeeping Product and put it on another drum.
Drum liners can also be used for different materials. These are readily available from a number of industrial equipment suppliers, and even most hardware stores.
Additionally, EXAIR compressed air-operated Industrial Housekeeping Products have no moving parts to wear, or electrical components to burn out. As long as you supply them with clean air, they’re going to run darn near indefinitely, maintenance free. And since they don’t use impellers, there’s nothing in the way, from the suction tool to the drum, for debris to clog or nest.
Whether you’re looking for a liquid vacuuming system, or something for picking up solid particulate – or both – EXAIR has a comprehensive line of Industrial Housekeeping Products to choose from. If you’d like to find out more, give me a call.

Industrial environments can be very demanding, and there are often byproducts – both liquid and solid – that can create troublesome messes that require cleanup. These can be difficult for normal, electric shop vacs, which often need replacing when they can’t keep up with demand. EXAIR‘s line of compressed air-operated drum vacs are a durable and robust solution to this problem.
Like all of EXAIR‘s Industrial Housekeeping products, the EasySwitch has no moving parts or electric motors to wear out, so it will be able to handle the toughest industrial cleanup jobs with little to no maintenance. All you need to operate is filtered compressed air. And at only 79 dBA, the EasySwitch is quiet as well!
The EasySwitch is made for use with open-top steel 55 gallon drums. When in dry mode, it can use a standard filter or HEPA-certified filter for critical dust containment. By releasing a single latch and removing these filters, you’re ready to go in liquid mode. This change can be completed in seconds!
We have three different systems available: our basic, Deluxe, and Premium. The basic system will come with the selected filter (standard or HEPA), 10-foot (3m) vacuum hose, 20-foot (6.1m) compressed air hose, plastic tools, shutoff valve and gauge. The HEPA filter models will also include a pre-filter to help protect the HEPA media from premature clogging. The Deluxe system will include the items in the basic system with an upgraded anti-static vacuum hose, heavy-duty tools, a spill recovery kit, a tool holder and a drum dolly. Both the basic and Deluxe systems are great options if you have your own 55-gallon drum. The Premium system will include the items in the Deluxe system as well as a 55-gallon drum.
If you have tough industrial cleanup jobs with both wet and dry materials, our EasySwitch Wet-Dry Vac may be the all-in-one solution you need. Feel free to give any of our Application Engineers a call!
I recently had a conversation with a machine shop located in Houston, Texas. Their specialization lies in aerospace components, and they operate an impressive total of 54 CNC mills and lathes. As you can imagine, they have a significant amount of coolant stored in sumps within their facility; in fact, you don’t need to imagine it, as they provided me with the exact figure. Out of their 54 CNC machines, they had a whopping 3,150 gallons of coolant. Wowzer!
CNC Lathe with 44 Gallon coolant tank.
Every day, a maintenance technician was on hand to oversee the coolant systems of these machines. However, due to the continuous operation of the machines around the clock, they found it necessary to replace the coolant entirely every six weeks. This was primarily because the constant use led to a buildup of residue, which fostered organic growth and compromised the quality of the coolant.
The EXAIR Chip Trapper truly stands out in this scenario! We opted for the 110 Gallon Chip Trapper since their largest available tank was 90 gallons. Now, cleaning these tanks takes less than an hour, and even more impressively, we’ve extended the coolant replacement interval from every six weeks to every six MONTHS!
The unique feature of the Chip Trapper is the vacuum pump. The vacuum units do not have any moving parts, so they are maintenance-free, quiet, and long-lasting. Without electric motors, the operator will be safe from electrical shock. They only require compressed air to operate. We offer two types: the Chip Trapper System and the High Lift Chip Trapper System. The Chip Trapper System is a great tool for coolant sumps on the floor level. The High Lift Chip Trapper System has a bit more power to draw in liquid from sumps below floor level and for fluids with higher viscosity.
EXAIR has three different volumes to select. We have 30 gallon (113 L), 55 gallon (208 L), and 110 gallon (416 L) drums. The system comes complete with a drum dolly, a 20 foot compressed air line, a shut-off valve, a chip wand, two 5 micron washable filter bags, and a vacuum hose. The filter bags can be replaced with ones of a different micron to increase efficiency or filter life. We have 1-micron, 25-micron, 100-micron, and 200-micron filter bags. If you are not sure which would work best for your coolant, EXAIR does offer a sample pack that will include one of each micron rating, model 901060-SP. And if it gets really messy in the machine shop, you can add a Spill Recovery Kit to clean up the liquid off the floor.
If you would like to know more about the EXAIR Chip Trapper System, an Application Engineer is happy to help you. You can take advantage of the features and benefits that the Chip Trapper provides: ease of use, extended coolant life, no electric motors to fail, and quick change-over.
