EXAIR Has a New Product: The Soft Grip Super Air Scraper

Scrape off, and blow away, stubborn debris with the Model 1244-48 Soft Grip Super Air Scraper.

EXAIR has designed a new nozzle called the Super Air Scraper.  This nozzle combines a scraping blade with our 2” Flat Super Air Nozzle.  It creates a mechanical force with a compressed air force to remove stubborn sticky material.  This patent-pending nozzle can be added to the EXAIR Soft Grip Air Gun to create a powerful scraping tool.

Let’s breakdown the nozzle.  The 2″ Super Air Scraper nozzle is a model 1144 which has a ¼” NPT female connection.  The model 1144-A includes a ¾ – 32 UN adaptor for connecting to the Soft Grip Safety Air Gun extensions.  The scraper can be changed when worn with a replacement blade; model 902007.  To add flexibility to the Super Air Scraper, a shim set, model 1132SS, can be used to modify the blowing force.  With these combinations, the nozzle complements the scraper as an effective way to clean with compressed air.

Soft Grip Super Air Scraper

To get pressurized air to the nozzle, EXAIR attached the 1144-A Super Air Scraper nozzle to the Soft Grip Safety Air Gun.  This gives a comfortable and ergonomic way to use and operate this product.  We offer different extensions for hard-to-reach applications ranging from 6” (152mm) to 72” (1,829mm) in length.  With the extensions that are 36” (914mm) and longer, EXAIR installed an additional foam grip sleeve.  This gives additional leverage for scraping material at a distance like floor level.  Chip Shields are also offered to prevent blow-back onto the operator.  You can view the details of the new product at this link on our website: Soft Grip Super Air Scraper.

To give some ideas for applications, the Soft Grip Super Air Scraper can be used for removing tape, gasket material, caulk, adhesive, paint, labels, and more.  With the addition of air, the detached material is blown away during scraping, keeping the area clean to target the remaining “stuck” material.  If gummy or flaky substances are a nuisance for workers, the Soft Grip Super Air Scraper can keep the machine or work station clean and operational.

Just like all cataloged items for EXAIR, we stock these parts for same day shipment with orders placed before 3 p.m. EST.  We offer a 30-day unconditional guarantee to allow you to see how great this product can work in your application.  If you have a sticky, flakey, or greasy substance that needs to be removed, the Soft Grip Safety Air Scraper is up to the challenge.  If you have any questions about the product or your “gummy” situation, you can contact an Application Engineer for help.

Think Of Quality And Service, Think Of EXAIR

As an Application Engineer at a direct sales manufacturing company, I get to talk to a LOT of people about potential uses for our quiet, safe, and efficient compressed air products. And, I’m happy to say, most of them I can even help with…even if the answer is “that’s just not gonna work.” Those are few and far between, however, and we can usually point someone in a better direction in those cases.

By the time we’ve “drilled down” into an application discussion far enough to make a product recommendation, we’ve got a pretty good feeling about it, and a vast majority of the time, our product solves the application in a big way. So big, in fact, that it makes them think of EXAIR again, and again.

Case in point: not long after I started here in 2011, I had the pleasure of helping someone out with some pick-and-place rigs on their packaging line…small products, bulk packaged for shipment to retail outlets. They used our Model 810003M E-Vac High Vacuum Generator and 900762 Small Round Vacuum Cups. Over the years, they’ve added some new products, and some more of the E-Vac pick-and-place rigs. It’s always good to hear from them, and I really believe the feeling is mutual.

EXAIR E-Vac Vacuum Generators provide a simple and reliable solution to pick-and-place applications.

Now, they want to automate a little clean-up operation where pilot holes are drilled in a plastic part, and are considering an intermittently operated vacuum. The concern is, if they use an electric powered one, the starting & stopping will take a toll on the motor. And they’re right.

So, the Model 6193-5 Mini Chip Vac System is up for consideration. Because it’s compressed air operated, constant starting & stopping is no problem…and, it’s generating vacuum immediately, so it’s ideal for quick bursts of cleanup suction action. No electric motor to burn out, no moving parts to wear – it’s a long term, maintenance-free solution.

Quiet and compact, the Mini Chip Vac is an ideal solution for a variety of industrial housekeeping needs.

If you’re an EXAIR engineered compressed air product user, I want to thank you for your business. If you’d like to discuss a particular compressed air product application (regardless of whether you’re a current user or not!) give me a call.

Condiment Sauce Recovery Using The High Lift Reversible Drum Vac

Last week I worked with a food manufacturer who makes a line of specialty sauces, with consistencies similar to BBQ sauce or ketchup, who was looking to vacuum spills off their production floors. During production, they will sometimes experience an overfill during the bottling process, which results in the product spilling on the floor. Their current clean up method is to have an operator with a wash down hose, “thin” the sauce spills with water then direct it to a drain in the floor so it can be sent to the scrap tank. This was causing a few issues though, first, the drains have filter traps that were clogging regularly from not only the sauces but other particulate that may have been on the floor, causing environmental concerns for the plant. The other concern was the amount of water they were wasting to perform the clean up. My contact was the newly appointed maintenance manager and was tasked with trying to find a more reliable, economical way to remedy the situation. He was familiar with EXAIR as he had used some of our Line Vac Conveyors at his previous employer and knew we also carried a line of Industrial Vacuums but was unsure which product would be best suited for his needs so he reached out for assistance.

After discussing the details of the application, I recommended he use our High Lift Reversible Drum Vac System. The High Lift RDV is a liquid only vacuum that provides 180″ H20 vacuum and is able to handle thicker, more viscous fluids (up to 1400 cP) than our standard Reversible Drum Vac. With the ability to vacuum liquid up to 15′, the unit comes standard with a 20′ flexible vacuum hose and has no motors or moving parts to wear out. The system quickly installs to a standard closed head steel drum with available capacities of 30, 55 or 110 gallons. For spills, we offer our optional Model # 6901 Spill Recovery Kit which includes a 54″ ABS wand and 14″ double-blade squeegee that makes floor cleanup a breeze. After the material has been vacuumed, the unit can then be set to “empty” to pump the liquid back out to their waste tank so it can be carried away by their environmental recovery supplier.

The Trusty Reversible Drum Vac, 16 Years Later

This week a customer sent us a Reversible Drum Vac to refurbish. From time to time a Reversible Drum Vac may need (depending on cleanliness of the supply air) cleaning due to particulate from the compressed air line landing inside the air chamber of the Reversible Drum Vac. EXAIR regularly rebuilds, cleans and tests Reversible Drum Vacs that customers send in to have us return them to new condition. You can also easily refurbish the Drum Vac at your facility: Here is a link to our How-To video for cleaning your Reversible Drum Vac. This particular Reversible Drum Vac though was clearly special.

16 Year Old Laser Marked Reversible Drum Vac

At first glance, the Reversible Drum Vac had been laser marked by the customer to permanently label their unit. The customer just so happened to be a laser marking shop, so I’m sure it was convenient for them. But digging deeper, the company originally purchased the unit in 1999, this Reversible Drum Vac could get its Learner’s Permit in most states. During the 16 years our customer was using the Reversible Drum Vac, we never heard from them. After 16 years they contacted us but not for a problem. They just wanted us to clean and inspect the unit to ensure maximum efficiency. This unit, though a bit dirty, was still operating very well. EXAIR put it through our refurbish process and brought it back to performance specifications that matched a new product.

The Reversible Drum Vac is a compressed air operated vacuum that attaches to a 55 gallon drum to create a vacuum that can also empty a 55 gallon drum in 90 seconds. The Reversible Drum Vac pulls a vacuum on the drum creating a siphon the pulls the liquid into the drum. With this technology the liquid never pass through the Reversible Drum Vac, which leads to its tremendous longevity. It is the perfect vacuum to empty coolant sumps, isolate contaminated liquids, or clean floor spills. The Reversible Drum Vac have no motors to wear out or impellers to clog so they last longer than their electrically operated counterparts.
