EXAIR Chip Vac Systems For Durable, Quiet, and Effective Industrial Housekeeping

Back when typewriters were an author’s main tool, movies & TV shows would often show an author experiencing a condition known as “writer’s block”, sitting at his desk with a wastebasket overflowing with crumpled papers representing failures-to-launch of their latest work.

For you younger folks, a “typewriter” is a standalone word processor with an integral printer.

The reason I tell you all this, dear reader, is because I had a bad case of “writer’s block” going on with this blog until I had the pleasure of discussing Industrial Housekeeping Products with a caller from a major tire manufacturer. Their needs were typical – and familiar:

  • Electric powered shop vacuums did the job, but….
  • They’re loud.
  • They break down.
  • They can’t use them everywhere. Their safety rules say they’re not allowed to run them in areas where the floor, equipment, etc., gets wet. (That’s a good rule, by the way…electrocution is serious business).
  • They’ve got compressed air drops EVERYWHERE…maybe more common even than 115VAC receptacles.
  • Since it’s a tire plant, they’d be used to vacuum up exactly what you’d expect: scrap bits of rubber, ranging from shavings to pellet-sized chunks.

If they were using it for particularly dense or abrasive material, we’d have talked about the Heavy Duty Dry Vac. If it was for dusty materials (especially critical dust containment of toxic or hazardous materials), the Heavy Duty HEPA Vac would have been discussed. If liquid transfer was involved, we’d have talked about Reversible Drum Vacs, EasySwitch Wet-Dry Vacs, or Chip Trapper Systems. If it was for small jobs and something handheld was desirable, the Vac-u-Gun might have been worth a look (actually…more on that in a minute). But this was a “textbook” fit for a Chip Vac System – consider:

  • Compressed air powered – no electric motor to burn out.
  • No moving parts – supply it with clean air, and it’ll run darn near indefinitely, maintenance free.
  • Compressed air powered, part 2 – no risk of electrocution.
  • Quiet – at 77dBA, the Chip Vac is 50% quieter than typical electric vacs.
Whatever your needs, EXAIR has a Chip Vac System to meet them!

If you’ve got an open top drum, Model 6193 (55 gallon) or 6193-30 (30 gallon) comes with everything you need for a basic setup. Model 6293 (or 6293-30) adds a Drum Dolly and Tool Holder. Or, for a complete system, ready to go right out of the box, Model 6393 (55 gallon), 6393-30 (30 gallon) or 6393-110 (110 gallon) adds the Drum, a 20ft compressed air supply hose with shutoff valve & gauge, and upgrades to a Static Resistant Hose and Heavy Duty Aluminum Tools. For smaller jobs and/or if space is a premium, Model 6193-5 comes with a 5 gallon container, and Model 6293-5 adds a drum dolly to that.

This automotive plant has a number of Model 6193-5 Mini Chip Vac Systems strategically located for frequent and quick cleanup jobs.

And, by taking advantage of our current promotion, they’re getting a free Vac-u-Gun with their order (I told you we’d be back to that).

Industrial Vacuum System Promotion Through 5/31/20 – Receive A Free Vac-u-Gun!!

From now through May 31, 2020, we are offering a FREE Vac-u-Gun with any order for one of our Industrial Housekeeping Vacuum Systems. The Vac-u-Gun is a multi-purpose tool that can be used to vacuum or transfer material from one location to another or it can be used as a powerful blow gun to clean debris off of the surface of a part or workstation. There is no electricity required to operate and no moving parts to wear out, providing for a safe, maintenance free operation.

EXAIR Vac-U-Gun

Our systems are designed to be either solids handling or liquid handling.

Our Chip Vac Systems are the ideal choice when looking to vacuum dry or damp debris left over from machining operations and delivers them to a standard open top steel drum. For more abrasive material, such as sand or steel shot used in sandblasting processes, the Heavy Duty Dry Vac provides superior wear resistance due to it’s proprietary hardened alloy construction.

If you are looking to vacuum liquids we offer our Reversible Drum Vac and High LIft Reversible Drum Vac providing higher suction lift, up to 180″ H2O.

Our Chip Trapper and High Lift Chip Trapper are also used in liquid applications but these systems incorporate a filter bag inside the drum to capture any suspended solids in the liquid so only clean fluid is pumped back into the reservoir or tank.

In dusty applications we offer the Heavy Duty HEPA Vac which uses the same vacuum as the HD Dry Vac but this system provides a higher level of filtration meeting HEPA requirements of 99.97% filtration at the 0.3 micron level.

Built to Last Liquid Vacuum Systems Made by EXAIR

Baseball season is in full swing, temperatures are climbing, and there’s pollen in the air. It must be spring!! The coming of spring means it’s time to start opening up the windows and tidying up around the house. It also means an increase in rain showers. To those of you out there that have experienced the joy of walking down into the basement only to find a nice pool of water I feel your pain. A crack in our foundation allowed a significant amount of water to seep inside, of course all over the brand-new carpet!!

I went out to the garage and grabbed the ol’ trusty shop vac and began vacuuming up as much residual water as I could. Shop vacs are a great tool for cleaning up a variety of messes in your home. However, the very same shop vac is not suitable for use in an industrial environment. EXAIR manufactures a variety of compressed air operated industrial vacuum systems. For the purpose of this blog, I’m going to highlight the systems suitable for use with wet materials.

Electric vacuums have impellers that can clog or break, the motor will eventually burn out, not to mention the risks associated with using electrical products near liquid. With no electricity and no moving parts to wear out, EXAIR’s Industrial Housekeeping products are much better suited to withstand a harsh industrial environment.

The Reversible Drum Vac attaches quickly to any closed head 30, 55, or 110 gallon drum. It’s capable of filling a 55 gallon drum in as little as 90 seconds! With a simple turn of the knob, it’s able to quickly pump the liquid back out of the drum. Coolant sumps can easily be refilled, floor spills contained, or contaminated liquids can be transferred to filtration tanks in minutes.

The High Lift Reversible Drum Vac operates just the same as the standard, but provides a higher-powered vacuum for use with thicker liquids or for applications that need to lift the liquid from below grade work areas up to 15’ deep. Both the standard and High Lift Reversible Drum Vacs have an automatic safety shutoff valve to prevent the drum from overfilling.

The Reversible Drum Vac is also the heart behind our award-winning coolant filtration system: the Chip Trapper. The Chip Trapper is a fast and simple way to clean chips, swarf, and shavings suspended in the coolant sump of your CNC machines. The liquid and suspended solids are vacuumed up into the drum. A filter bag inside traps the debris, chips, and shavings and allows you to pump clean liquid back out of the drum. The filter bag can be removed and cleaned for repeated use. Each system will come with (2) bags to get you started. Not only does this extend the life of your coolant, but can also eliminate the potential for chips and shavings to get clogged in the coolant system and reducing coolant flow. It, too, is available as a High Lift Chip Trapper System for thicker liquids or sumps that are below ground.

If you’re looking for a vacuum system that’s Built to Last, EXAIR has the right tool for you. All of our vacuum systems have no moving parts to wear out and are maintenance-free when supplied with clean and dry compressed air. With all systems available in stock and same day shipment for stock items, you can have one just in time for your annual spring cleaning!
