No Drip Internal Mix Atomizing Nozzles

Eliminate drips to conserve valuable liquids and improve product finishes!  EXAIR’s patented No Drip Atomizing Nozzle provides the same great performance as the the standard atomizing nozzles with the added benefit of positive liquid flow stoppage when the compressed air is shut off.

The No Drip option eliminates the occurrence of post spray liquid flow that results in unwanted drips that can mar a finish on painted or coated surfaces.  Also, excess liquid loss is minimized saving on expensive materials like chemicals or coatings.  When the compressed air is shut-off, the No Drip nozzle positively seals off the flow, eliminating the chance for a drip or lost liquid. Only one compressed air line is needed, as the line to combine and atomize the liquid also provides the no drip operation and control.

The No Drip Atomizing Nozzles are available in (3) types – Internal Mix, External Mix, and Siphon Fed.

The Internal Mix type operates under the principle that the air and liquid come together and mix ‘internal’ to the nozzle.  This type provides the finest atomization and smallest droplet size. The Internal Mix type of nozzle can be used with liquids up to 300 cP in viscosity.  Both the air and liquid sides are pressure fed.  The No drip Internal Mix Atomizing Nozzles are best for pressure fed applications not requiring independent air and liquid control.

The No Drip Atomizing Nozzles are available in (3) sizes – 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2 NPT – to provide a wide range of flow rates and pattern sizes.  The No Drip feature does not impact the flow rates compared to the standard models.  Minimum air pressure operation is 30 PSIG for the 1/4 and 1/2 NPT, and just 20 PSIG for the 1/8 NPT models.

Like the standard Internal Mix Atomizing  Nozzles, spray patterns include narrow and wide angle round, flat fan, deflected flat fan and a 360° hollow circular pattern offering a wide selection to best meet the application needs.

Operation at up to 180 spray cycles per minute is possible.  Air and Liquid Caps can be switched out to change the pattern and flow rates.

A Lot Can Happen In Five Years

Five years ago, I wrote a blog about my (then) 11 year old son’s first-ever week away from home at Boy Scout Summer Camp. He’s departing again this weekend, but his troop has decided to venture “out of Council” this year, to Camp Howard W. Wall…it’s on the south coast of the island of St. Croix, in the US Virgin Islands.

They met last week to cover the final (and finer) details of international travel, flight schedules, logistics, etc., and activities…Camp Friedlander has a “blob:”

But Camp Wall has an OCEAN:

Just to put the distance into perspective...
Just to put the distance into perspective…

I’ve been thinking a LOT about the changes I’ve seen in the wide-eyed kid I dropped off at a camp that I drive past twice a day, and the smirking teenager that I’m driving to the airport on Sunday morning. And those changes are providing perspective on not only how fast those five years have passed, but how much can happen in that span.

In 2011, I was a wide-eyed “Dread Newbie” at EXAIR.  One of my very first meetings with the rest of the gang was to be trained on our brand new Atomizing Spray Nozzles…we only had three styles to choose from, but two of them came in four distinct models, and one came in FIVE. They were ALL Internal Mix, because hey, who doesn’t like the maximum range of adjustability that comes with being able to vary your flow rate and spray pattern size by adjusting liquid AND air supply pressures?

OK; it turns out that was just the beginning…within the year, our Engineering Department had developed:

External Mix – three styles, thirteen distinct models, to allow for independent adjustment of flow rate (by liquid pressure) and spray pattern (by air pressure.)

Siphon Fed – two styles, seven distinct models, that could be siphon OR gravity fed, for situations where it’s not practical to pressurize the liquid supply.

And, four years after that, looking back, it seems like THAT was just the beginning…we now have:

*Two sizes – the original 1/4 NPT and the new(er) 1/2 NPT.
*Sixteen styles – each available with our No-Drip option (so technically I guess we have thirty-two)
*Forty-five distinct models – we’ve got a flow rate/spray pattern combination for just about any application

And, like the rest of our catalog products, they’re all in stock, ready to ship today, on time, like we do 99.97% of the time…that’s actually one thing that HASN’T changed in the 17 years that we’ve been keeping track.

If you’d like to talk about Spray Nozzles…or any EXAIR products (old or new,) give me a call.

A Matter of Choice

They say having multiple choices in life is a good thing.  This is also true when it comes to spray nozzles, specifically EXAIR’s atomizing nozzles.

Spray nozzles in action.
Spray nozzles in action.

Atomizing nozzles are used to coat, cool, treat, and paint products.  They are also useful for dust mitigation.  EXAIR offers a variety of nozzles, all stainless steel construction for durability and corrosion resistance, that allow for many different spray patterns.   The nozzles only come with two inlet sizes – 1/4NPT and 1/2NPT,  but this is not really the choice-limiting factor it sounds to be.  There are a variety of spray patterns and liquid volume outputs available per size.  The way the air and liquid mix together creates the style of nozzle, they are Internal, External, Siphon Fed, No Drip Internal, No Drip External, and No Drip Siphon Fed.   On top of that, with each mix style and size, there are a large number of spray patterns available.  More choices!

Internal mix nozzles mix a liquid (viscosities up to 300cP) and air, both pressure fed, inside the air cap and produce the finest atomization.  External mix nozzles mix a liquid (viscosities above 300cP) and air, both pressure fed, outside the air cap and allow the liquid and air flows to be adjusted independently.  These nozzles have the highest flow rate and are best used where precise liquid flow is needed.  Siphon Fed nozzles require no liquid pressure.  They can be used with gravity fed liquids (viscosity up to 200cP) or liquids from a siphoned height up to 36in.

The spray patterns available are:  Flat Fan, Deflected Flat Fan, Wide Angle Flat Fan, Narrow Angle Flat Fan, 360° Hollow Circular, Round, Wide Angle Round, and Narrow Angle Round.   Each pattern is different and is tailored for certain usages.  Think of how you use your garden hose.  Many of the patterns and their uses are the same.

Mix and match to meet your needs.  With all the combinations available, you should have no problem finding the perfect pattern for your application.  If you find this plethora of choices to be a bit overwhelming and need assistance, please contact an EXAIR Application Engineer at 1-800-903-9247; we would be happy to assist.
