EXAIR’s Atomizing Nozzles are commonly used to clean, cool or coat parts as well as humidification or to control dust. They are constructed of 303ss, providing superior corrosion resistance and are able to withstand temperature up to 400°F (204°C).
For today’s topic, we will focus on the No Drip External Mix Atomizing Nozzles.
The External Mix Atomizing Spray Nozzles require a pressurized liquid source and compressed air source to produce a mist of atomized liquid. With the liquid and air being mixed external to the nozzle, they are able to handle higher viscosity fluids above 300 cP.
Our patented No Drip feature positively stops the liquid flow when the supply air pressure drops below 20 PSIG for 1/8″ NPT Nozzles or 30 PSIG for the 1/4″ or 1/2″ NPT. By incorporating this feature into the design, it eliminates the need for any additional valves or supply lines.
Available flow rates range from 2 GPH for our Model # EF9010SS 1/8″ No Drip External Mix Narrow Angle Flat Fan Pattern and up to 303 GPH for the Model # EF6010SS 1/2″ No Drip External Mix Narrow Angle Flat Fan Pattern.

Eliminate drips to conserve valuable liquids and improve product finishes! EXAIR’s patented No Drip Atomizing Nozzle provides the same great performance as the the standard atomizing nozzles with the added benefit of positive liquid flow stoppage when the compressed air is shut off.
The No Drip option eliminates the occurrence of post spray liquid flow that results in unwanted drips that can mar a finish on painted or coated surfaces. Also, excess liquid loss is minimized saving on expensive materials like chemicals or coatings. When the compressed air is shut-off, the No Drip nozzle positively seals off the flow, eliminating the chance for a drip or lost liquid. Only one compressed air line is needed, as the line to combine and atomize the liquid also provides the no drip operation and control.
The Internal Mix type operates under the principle that the air and liquid come together and mix ‘internal’ to the nozzle. This type provides the finest atomization and smallest droplet size. The Internal Mix type of nozzle can be used with liquids up to 300 cP in viscosity. Both the air and liquid sides are pressure fed. The No drip Internal Mix Atomizing Nozzles are best for pressure fed applications not requiring independent air and liquid control.
The No Drip Atomizing Nozzles are available in (3) sizes – 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2 NPT – to provide a wide range of flow rates and pattern sizes. The No Drip feature does not impact the flow rates compared to the standard models. Minimum air pressure operation is 30 PSIG for the 1/4 and 1/2 NPT, and just 20 PSIG for the 1/8 NPT models.
Like the standard Internal Mix Atomizing Nozzles, spray patterns include narrow and wide angle round, flat fan, deflected flat fan and a 360° hollow circular pattern offering a wide selection to best meet the application needs.
Operation at up to 180 spray cycles per minute is possible. Air and Liquid Caps can be switched out to change the pattern and flow rates.

Do you ever need to spray a liquid? If so lets look at two of EXAIR’s Atomizing Spray Nozzles or ASN for short. The first model we will discuss is the AD1010SS Internal Mix Deflected Flat Fan Pattern.
To begin with all EXAIR ASN’s are made from SS for durability and liquid compatibility. As its name implies it creates a flat fan pattern that exit’s the nozzle perpendicular to the air & liquid inlets as shown above. This unique design lends itself nicely to applications with space constraints. The AD1010SS is the ideal choice for coating the inside of enclosures or ductwork. It is compatible with liquids up to 300 centipoise and the air and liquid are mixed in the air cap. The AD1010SS is designed for pressure fed applications not requiring independent air and liquid control. What is meant by that statement is that if you vary either the air or liquid pressures you change the spray pattern and volume. The AT1010SS internal mix 360° nozzle is designed for applications where the spray pattern must be oriented away from the nozzle in all directions. 360° nozzles are ideal where a smooth, even coating is needed on the ID of a pipe or similar ductwork. It is compatible with liquids up to 300 centipoise and the air and liquid are mixed in the air cap. The AT1010SS is designed for pressure fed applications not requiring independent air and liquid control. As above if you vary either the air or liquid pressures you change the spray pattern and volume. See the chart below for clarification on pressures, volumes and spray patterns. They also work great for operations where a mist over a broad area is needed, such as dust suppression, humidification and cooling. Not long ago while checking out of a motel my laptop bag that was attached to the handle on my suitcase fell forward and the impact shattered the screen on the laptop. Upon turning the computer on I realized that a new screen was in order.
I waited until I arrived at home and found what I thought to be the correct monitor and quickly ordered it. It arrived two days later and I painstakingly took the laptop apart and exposed the mounting frame. The removal of the broken screen and the installation of the new was not too difficult but the cable connector was less than robust and was very tight. Carefully I worked it back and forth and it came free.
Installation and reassembly went quickly and then I powered up the machine. I was only greeted with a series of very loud and annoying beeps. At that point I shut it down and called the company I purchased the screen from and described the issue. They determined that the resolution of the screen was incorrect for my laptop and that I needed a different model. They said I could return the incorrect one and upon inspection receive a credit less the return shipping. At that point I ordered the correct screen and packaged up the wrong one and dropped it off at the parcel delivery service.
The new model arrived and it installed easily and worked perfectly. I waited patiently and never did see a refund so I called the company and they said that it was an oversight on their end and that it would be corrected within 48 hours. Sure enough they issued the credit and money was credited back to my account with one exception, the 40% restocking fee!

In today’s market, the cost of consumable products are on the rise; especially with paints, oils, and yes, even the cost of water. You can help alleviate some of that cost by being more effective in spraying with less liquid. The EXAIR Atomizing Nozzles can accomplish both of these objectives. By using compressed air, the liquid can be sheared into smaller micron-sized droplets. As a reference, if the diameter of a particle is reduced by one-half, this will multiply the number of droplets by eight. With a smaller diameter, it will increase the surface area and coverage of the droplets; thus, requiring less liquid in your application. In combination with a variety of spray patterns, you can accurately target the liquid onto the product instead of around the product. EXAIR manufactures three families of Atomizing Nozzles; Internal Mix, External Mix, and the Siphon Fed. In this blog, I will be discussing the Siphon Fed Atomizing Nozzles.
When no liquid pressure is available, the Siphon Fed Atomizing Nozzles will create a vacuum in the liquid line to draw the fluid into the nozzle. This action is done by the unique design of the air cap. As the velocity of the air passes through the air cap, a low pressure is created on the liquid side by a venturi. These Atomizing Nozzles can draw liquid from a suction height of 36” (91 cm) or can be gravity fed from a distance of 18” (46 cm). They are manufactured from stainless steel for durability and corrosion resistance. The Siphon Fed models can spray viscous fluids up to 200 centipoise, and are used in many applications like washing, coating, cooling, quenching, and dust control.
EXAIR carries three different body sizes in 1/8” NPT, ¼” NPT, and ½” NPT ports; so, you can create a light mist or a monsoon. The maximum liquid flow rate through each body size is controlled by the air cap and liquid cap. These caps are easily interchangeable for each body size to modify the spray patterns, control the amount of fluid, and reduce any downtime if cleaning is required. The amount of liquid to be applied is easily adjusted by the siphon height, inlet pressure, and the liquid adjusting stem. So, you can dial in the exact amount of fluid required for your process to eliminate any waste or excess. They are very compact and easy to install. We carry mounting brackets for each size to allow for easy mounting and positioning for efficacy. Versatility is very important in saving, applying, and spraying costly fluids, and the Siphon Fed Atomizing Nozzles have it.
To reduce waste even more, EXAIR has a No Drip option. This patented design is used to keep the expensive liquid from dripping out of the Atomizing Nozzles. When the compressed air is turned off, a valve inside the body will create a seal on the liquid side. For delicate applications, the unwanted drips will not occur with the No Drip option and ruin the finish of your product. This option also enhances the function of the Siphon Fed Atomizing Nozzle in intermittent processes. It will keep the liquid inside the body of the nozzle; so, when air pressure is applied, the Atomizing Nozzle will give an instant spray.
With an Electronic Flow Control (EFC), you can automate your system to only spray parts when the product is under the Atomizing Nozzle. The EFC comes with a solenoid valve, a timing circuit, and a photoelectric sensor. With the solenoid valve on the air pressure side, the Atomizing Nozzle can reach speeds up to 180 cycles per minute. The minimum air pressure required to open the No Drip valve is 30 PSIG (2.1 bar) for the ¼” NPT and the ½” NPT port sizes, and 20 PSIG (1.4 bar) for the 1/8” port size. Unlike some manufacturers, there is no need to run a separate compressed air line to operate the no drip function. The Siphon Fed Atomizing Nozzles with the No Drip options are efficient, effective, and flexible without any drips.

While all of this information is going to help simplify the selection process, when we get a reply that the liquid isn’t pressurized, the choice becomes a little less complicated.
Our Siphon Fed Atomizing Nozzles are the preferred solution in applications where a pressurized liquid source isn’t available. With a steady supply of compressed air, these nozzles are able to draw the liquid into the nozzle with suction heights up to 36″ for our 1/8″ NPT and 1/4″ NPT nozzles, and up to 24″ for our larger 1/2″ NPT Models. They can also be gravity fed as well.
These nozzles mix the fluid internally and are capable of handling viscosity up to 200 centipoise. Depending on the size of the nozzle and supply air pressure, flow rates can range from 0.4 GPH up to 60 GPH with either a round or flat fan spray pattern. There is also an adjusting valve for more or less liquid flow as needed to fit the demand of the application.
We also offer these nozzles with our patented No Drip feature which positively stops the liquid flow when the supply air pressure drops below 30 PSIG, eliminating the need for any additional valves or supply lines.
