Atomizing Nozzles – No Drip Deflected Flat Fan and 360° Hollow Circular

EXAIR manufactures three types of Atomizing Nozzles – Internal Mix, External Mix, and Siphon Fed.  Within the Internal Mix family, there are two specialty nozzles, the Deflected Flat Fan and the 360° Hollow Circular patterns.

Internal Mix nozzles are for pressure fed applications not requiring independent air and liquid control.

The model AD2010SS is the No Drip version of the Deflected Flat Fan and is shown below. Our patented No Drip design prevents unwanted post spray drips from wasting expensive fluids or ruining product finishes. The benefit to this design is that no secondary compressed air line is necessary to activate the on/off valve for the liquid, which is the case for competitive nozzles.

The Deflected Flat Fan patterned nozzle is designed for applications where space is a limited.  The spray pattern is at a right angle to the orientation of the nozzle, allowing the spray to be placed precisely where it is needed in tight quarters.  They are ideal for coating the insides of enclosures and ductwork.

The 360° Hollow Circular patterned nozzle is designed for applications where the spray pattern is to be orientated away form the nozzle in all directions.  They are ideal where a smooth and even coating is needed on the internal surface of a pipe or duct.  They are also good for processed where a mist is needed over a large area, including dust suppression, humidification, and cooling.

The No Drip feature is a patented† design that has the added benefit of positively stopping the liquid flow when the compressed air is shut off. Post spray liquid flow can cause quality issues from unwanted drips on painted or coated surfaces.  Also, the No Drip feature helps to conserve and save on liquid use, reducing costs of expensive coatings or chemicals.

When the compressed air supply is shut off, the No Drip nozzle positively seals off the flow of liquid, eliminating over spray and drips. The design allows for just one compressed air line, there is no need for an additional to control the No Drip mechanism.

The Deep Hole Vac-u-Gun = Dual Problem Solver

A little while back, I was contacted by a customer who was looking for a way to clean chips and debris out of tapped holes in an engine block. They were familiar with our products, having used them in several different areas in their plant, and had done some early research into our Air Nozzles.

They were considering using our small M4 Back Blow Air Nozzle in the process. The Back Blow Air Nozzles produce a 360° airflow that blows away from the end of the nozzle and in many cases, are the ideal solution for treating the inside diameter of hose, pipe, machined holes, etc. These unique nozzles, eliminate the concern of forcing particulate further down into a machined hole or the safety issue of blowing material out of the opposite end of an open tube or pipe.

EXAIR Back Blow Air Nozzles come in three sizes, for bores from 1/4″ to 16″ in diameter!

In this particular case, having the material blown out of the hole increased the risk of possible cross contamination somewhere else in the engine block so they were also thinking of incorporating some type of recovery system like our Chip Vac or one of our Line Vacs but were concerned with having to use two separate devices.

Once again, EXAIR has the perfect solution, the Deep Hole Vac-u-Gun. The Deep Hole Vac-u-Gun features a small blow tube (1/8″ OD) that provides a small blast of air to dislodge or loosen foreign material while simultaneously providing vacuum to carry the debris away.

No Drip Internal Mix Deflected Fan and 360° Hollow Circular Pattern Atomizing Nozzles

EXAIR offers a wide variety of  Atomizing Spray Nozzles that can be used to coat, rinse or cool a surface. We manufacture (3) different types – Internal Mix, External Mix, and Siphon Fed – as well as 3 different sizes – 1/8″ NPT, 1/4″ NPT and 1/2″ NPT – all in 303ss construction, rated up to 400°F.

Today, I would like to focus on 2 specific Atomizing Nozzles – our No Drip Internal Mix Deflected Fan Nozzle and our Internal Mix 360° Hollow Circular Pattern Nozzle.

Model AD2010SS – No Drip Internal Mix Deflected Flat Fan Atomizing Nozzle, 6.9 GPH, 1/4″ NPT

The No Drip Internal Mix Deflected Fan Atomizing Nozzle produces a flat fan of atomized liquid at a right angle to the nozzle’s orientation and is designed for use in pressured fed applications where the liquid doesn’t need to be controlled independently from the pressurized air. This nozzle is the perfect choice in processes where mounting space is limited like spraying solvent on conveyed parts inside a small chamber or coating the inside of an enclosure. The patented No Drip feature positively stops the liquid flow when the supply air pressure drops below 30 PSIG, eliminating the need for any additional valves or supply lines.  This is especially beneficial in applications using expensive fluids or where drips can ruin a finished product. This nozzle is available with 1/4″ NPT inlets and flows as high as 6.9 gallons per hour.

 

Internal Mix 360° Hollow Circular Pattern – designed to spray evenly, away from the nozzle in all directions.

Our Internal Mix 360° Hollow Circular Pattern Atomizing Nozzles produce a circular spray pattern, the ideal solution when trying to coat the inside of ductwork or where a broad mist of atomized liquid is necessary, like dust suppression or humidification. Available in 1/4″ NPT with flows as high as 14.7 GPH and spray diameters up to 53″ in diameter  depending on air and liquid supply pressures. With the 1/2″ NPT, we can achieve up to 150 GPH with a spray diameter up to 156″. Our  standard Atomizing Nozzles also feature an adjustment valve to provide control of the flow rate, making them easy to adapt to a specific requirement.

Drying and Cleaning Tubes Using The Standard Air Wipe

A tubing manufacturer called looking for a better way to dry their 3″ (O.D.) tubes after a rinse application. In their current setup, the tubes are being cut by a band saw, which uses flood coolant to keep the blade cool and evacuate chips. After the tubes are cut, they are then bundled together and dipped into a rinse tank to remove the cutting fluid and any machining debris on the surfaces. The tubes are then fed, one by one, through a series of blower driven air knives placed around the outside  of the tubing to dry and clean them before a painting and bar code process. The air knives were working somewhat, but they were seeing some residual streaking on the surface of the tubes that needed to be manually cleaned by hand, slowing down the process.

I recommended the customer use our 4″ Standard Air Wipe in their application. EXAIR Air Wipes provide a 360° uniform, high velocity airflow that adheres to the outside surface, as it passes through the throat of the device. Here is a short video we made showing the cleaning power of our Standard Air Wipes.

The Standard Air Wipe is available in stock sizes from 1/2″ up to 11″. The aluminum construction and PVC hose (included on sizes up to 4″) is suitable for most “general” industrial environments with ambient temperatures reaching as high as 150°F. We also offer Stainless Steel Super Air Wipes, which have the same performance as the Standard, for processes requiring superior corrosion resistance and/or where higher temperatures are possible, up to 800°F.

As I write this blog I am waiting for my game console to finish a system update.  Oddly enough it was able to flip some tiny switch in my brain that gave me today’s blog topic.  EXAIR‘s brand new, updated, catalog has just been released this week!

Much like a software update is crucial, our catalog update is a vital step in the process of keeping all of our customers up to date on what we’ve been busy with over the past year.  This years catalog has hundreds of new models and product offerings.  Not to mention several new award winning products.

Not only does the catalog have all the model numbers and full color pictures of the product, but it also contains a vast majority of the technical data available on each product line.

So if you are still working with an older catalog from a few years ago, let us know and we’ll send you a brand new one out as quick as possible.  If you can’t wait for the United States Post Office the PDF version of the catalog and each of it’s individual sections is available for free download from our site.

I know I was extremely happy to get mine on my desk and all the tabs in it.  Hopefully it will bring some joy to other detail oriented engineers like Lee Evans mentioned in his blog post.
