Over the years we have expanded our Static Eliminator’s product line time and time again. Since its close to Christmas and I’m in the giving mood let’s do a full overview!!! Buckle up this is going to be a long one!!

GEN4 Super Ion Air Knife!

The Gen4 Super Ion Air Knife floods an area or surface with static eliminating ions. With a uniform airflow across its length, misalignment to critical surfaces like webs is avoided.  The force can be adjusted from a light breeze, to a full out blast of air. The Gen4 Super Ion Air Knife is electrically powered, is shock less and has no moving parts.

GEN4 Standard Ion Air Knife!

Similar to the Gen4 Super Ion Air Knife, this product has a good compressed air efficiency.  It utilizes the Coanda effect to draw in ambient air at a 30:1 amplification ratio.  They come in stocked lengths from 3” (76mm) to 48” (1.22 meters).  The Gen4 Standard Ion Air Knife are used in similar applications as well as mold releasing, package cleaning, label applications and plastic bag opening.

GEN4 Ion Bar (NO COMPRESSED AIR NEEDED)

This rugged design is for industrial use to remove static cling from flat surfaces. They range from a length of 3” (76mm) to 108” (2.74 meters).  Without the assistance of air, the product has to be within 2 inches (51 mm) from the surface to remove static charges.  The Gen4 Ionizing Bar is shock less and works well in applications where blowing air could be a detriment for the process.  This would include screen printing, labeling, and large printing process.

GEN4 Super Ion Air Wipe

This product blows ionized air in a 360-degree pattern.  They are engineered to remove static and debris from the outside of hoses, plastic pipe, extrusions, and coated wires.  With the split design, the Gen4 Super Ion Air Wipe can easily mount around the product without having to rethread.  They come in two different sizes with a 2” (51mm) and 4” (102mm) inner diameter. The ionized air has a fast static decay for speedy transfers.

GEN4 Ion Air Cannon

Just like the name, this product will shower an area with ions to remove static. It can reach distances up to 15 feet (4.6 meters).  They are used in multiple areas including pre-paint car bodies, containers, shrink packaging, lenses, etc.  As an Air Amplifier, a small amount of compressed air will draw in a large amount of ambient air.  The ions are carried to the surface from the Gen4 Ion Air Cannon in a laminar air steam.   Once the ions coat the surface area, the air flow can gently remove any debris held by static forces.

GEN4 Ion Air Jet and Gun

For manual static removal to target specific areas, the Gen4 Ion Air Gun will work great.  This product comes standard with 10 feet (3 meters) of shielded cable for maximum reach.  An ergonomic air gun is attached to a Gen4 Ion Air Jet to manually remove static in difficult areas and from “shock” zones.  The Ion Air Guns work great for small batch processes used for quality checks or label applications.

Similar to the Ion Air Gun, this product is used for “hands-free” operations. They use a small amount of compressed air to “shoot” the ions onto a surface.  They can be operated with a solenoid valve or foot pedal to blow ions during specific times and situations.  They can easily be attached to a Stay Set Hose and Magnetic Base for best “hands-free” positioning for optimal cleaning.  They work well on small targets for automated systems or inspections areas prior to packaging.

This single point design is manufactured to remove static on small targets in tight spots.  Utilizing the same rugged design of the Gen4 Static Eliminators, this product can remove static in spot areas and help to stop jams in slitting operations. They can also be panel mounted to neutralize duct air.

Intellistat Ion Air Gun

This is one of EXAIR’s newest product that is a lightweight solution for static and particle removal.  The patent-pending air gun comes complete with a 24Vdc power supply and a 6mm compressed air tubing.  There is a red and green LED lights to signify the production of ionized air for visual feedback.  The engineered air nozzles are quiet and OSHA safe.  The emitter point inside that creates the ions can be easily changed for replacement.  The applications range from circuit boards, electronic manufacturing, laboratories, clean rooms, and scientific testing.

Super Ion Air Knives Remove Static, Improve Bottle Cap Production

The leaves have all fallen. The sky, more often than not, is dreary. My winter coat is officially part of the “uniform of the day”. And I got shocked by the laundry room doorknob yesterday. All this means that winter is upon us (here in the Northern Hemisphere anyway), and as far as EXAIR is concerned, it’s “static season”. We’re seeing a definite uptick in the numbers of conversations we’re having about static charge-related issues…and solutions that we can provide.

I had the pleasure of speaking to a caller, last month, who works for the US division of a global manufacturer of bottle caps. A machine that sorts & orients plastic caps was particularly prone to static charge problems last winter, causing a marked decrease in their production, and they wanted to get out in front of the problem this year:

As the caps travel horizontally (white arrows), they pass under a static bar (supplied by the machine manufacturer) which provided some reduction in static charge, but was unable to keep up with the higher magnitudes of static charge experienced during the lower humidity winter months. Bottle caps (right) would pile up, slowing production.

The increased static charge (beyond the OEM static bar’s ability to handle) reduced production by 1/3. The Super Ion Air Knife restored operation to full capacity for this machine…and three others, once they saw the results of the first one.

The most recent application I had using our Super Air Knives in the medical field was using a compilation of knives strategically arranged to blow moisture off stainless steel tubes which are components af a larger medical product.

Cold Gun: Our customer in the pharmaceutical industry was experiencing downtime and low efficiency rates as the tablet punch presses for their pill manufacturing lines were heating up and causing downtime. The solution was placing a couple Cold Guns blowing cold air on to the punch presses to remove the heat. The end result was higher efficiency rate and little to no downtime from the punch presses over heating.

Super Ion Air Knives Remove Static From Coil Stock for Metal Food Packaging Manufacturer

Here on the EXAIR Blog you’ll often find a host of applications and discussion centered around static electricity during the fall and winter months. The reason for this is that during periods of lower humidity, it’s much easier for static to build up and pose problems for a variety of industrial processes. During the summer, higher levels of humidity “coat” the atoms of a molecule and reduce the amount of static buildup.

With that being said, just because it’s right in the middle of summer where humidity levels are rather high doesn’t mean all static problems go away. Some applications generate such a high level of static that they require a solution year-round. Such was the case for a recent customer that manufactures a wide variety of various styles of cans and cups used by the food industry.

For a new process for one of their customers, they apply a wax to the coil stock using an electrostatic waxer in front of their cupper lines. The waxers run at -20Kv to charge the atomized wax particles to attract to the positive charge on the coil stock. The coil stock then carries a residual charge as high as 18Kv and in less than a minute would immediately cling to their cupper die press. Without a solution for removing the static, they were unable to run this machine.

The coil stock width ranges from about 33-34” and carried a charge on either side of the material. The recommended solution was to install (2) of our Model 112036” Super Ion Air Knives just in front of the material’s entry into the cupper die on top and bottom of the coil stock. They were up against a firm deadline to get material completed and to their customer. A delay in other components had pushed them right up against their commitment to deliver finished cans to their customer, something we’re all becoming all to common with nowadays.

Fortunately for them, EXAIR had the parts available and in stock. We shipped them out the very same day for next day early AM delivery. They had them up and installed before lunch and production was resumed. At a time where it seems everything is out of stock for a number of reasons, EXAIR is still shipping orders out same day.
