Now comes the question of how to make it work? When you head over to EXAIR.COM, go to the product page of the item you want to see. When that product page is loaded, the first thing you will see are some photos of the item. The active ones for that item will look just like the view to the left. Just hit View in your Space, and select a surface you want the product to sit on. In the photo above I was just sitting at my desk!
This is a great tool to fully visualize how a product will look in your assembly. Or to get an idea of how big an item is in relation to something else!
We hope this tool gives you the ability to see our products within your applications in a way never before possible, and on your time! But don’t forget, we have a full team of Application Engineers here 7am-4pm EST ready to answer any questions you may have or help you size or determine which product is best for your application!
EXAIR celebrates Founder’s Day each year on February 22nd (or the closest working day) in order to commemorate the birthday of our founder, Roy Sweeney. He founded the company in 1983 and drove EXAIR to become the strong, successful and innovative company that it has over the years. Roy led EXAIR for 33 years. Today would have been his 90th birthday. It’s hard to believe that he’s been gone for almost eight years, but his commitment to helping others lives on through all of us.
We make this day a celebration and a day to mark our ongoing commitment to the service of others, in keeping with the values that Roy and his wife Jackie felt (and feel) very strongly about. They both worked hard to support many social causes and events here in Cincinnati and set a great example of what being engaged in your community looks like. We continue to look outside our company, outside ourselves and outside our immediate surroundings, to do what we can to improve the world around us. And we urge others to do the same.
This year, we have selected these organizations to receive donations as part of our Founder’s Day celebration:
DAV Supporting disabled American veterans and their families.
Freestore Foodbank Supplies 33 million meals per year to those in need.
Lighthouse Youth and Family Services Supporting their Safe and Supported program for LGBTQ youth
Cincinnati Works Partners with all willing and capable people living in poverty to assist them in advancing to economic self-sufficiency through employment.
Wave Pool Wave Pool is a contemporary art fulfillment center where experimental art connects the community and creates change.
Bethany House Helps homeless and at-risk families with solutions to achieve housing stability and long-term self-sufficiency.
To further encourage ourselves to participate and engage with our communities, EXAIR has also established an Employee Volunteer Program that enables every full-time employee with at least 90 days of service to volunteer with organizations of their choice during the normal work week with full pay by EXAIR. We urge everyone to work collectively with organizations in our community to improve the lives of those in need.
As we celebrate Founder’s Day today, we wish Roy a happy birthday. We miss him. We remember what he and Jackie did (and do) for all of us and for countless others. And we pledge to continue his commitment to helping those who need it.
When static is an issue, there are two primary ways to eliminate it – Active Static Elimination, and Passive Static Elimination. But which method is better? To answer this, we need to know the difference between them:
Passive Static Elimination, as the name suggests, removes static passively. It is often in the form of a bare wire, or some type of conductive material like copper, which is used to provide a path for the static charge to dissipate. The advantages of this are that once it is in place you can forget about it (kind-of – we’ll come back to this). This type of static elimination doesn’t use any power, and has basically no operating cost. The downside to this solution is that the conductive material needs to be in contact, often dragging along the surface. This means that the eliminators can wear down over time, leading to them needing to be replaced (so you can’t quite forget about it!). If your product is delicate, then the contact from the eliminator can damage the surface. Additionally, passive eliminators are likely to collect dust and debris, which may be transferred to your product. Finally, a passive eliminator will have a difficult time making contact with shapes of varying size and complexity.
Static Eliminators
Active static elimination, such as the static eliminator product line from EXAIR, offer a variety of ways to eliminate the static on a surface without ever touching the product. Right away, this overcomes the downsides of passive eliminators just mentioned. If your product has a complex shape, the ionized airflow from many of our Gen4 products can be directed to contact every part of it. Without direct contact, active static elimination isn’t going to damage the surface either. There is also no concern about contamination of the product. In fact, our compressed air operated line of static eliminators are fantastic at removing dust and debris from a surface. Finally, our active static elimination products are not going to wear out over time the same way a Passive solution will.
On top of these great benefits, EXAIR will honor a 30-day guarantee to test our products in your facility. As well as honor a 5 year built to last warranty on compressed air products and a 1-year warranty on any electrical component.
If you have an issue with static that you would like to discuss, please give us a call.
EXAIR is THE industry leader when it comes to compressed air operated Air Knives. If you’ve taken a look at our offering, you might ask “what in the world is the difference between the Super, Standard, and Full-Flow Air Knives?”. Fret not, I’m here to clear up any doubts right here on the EXAIR Blog.
Leading the pack is the award-winning Super Air Knife. The Super Air Knife is available (from stock) in aluminum, Type 303 & Type 316 stainless steel, as well as in PVDF with Hastelloy bolts for extremely corrosive applications. The Super Air Knives are offered in lengths ranging from 3”-108” in both aluminum and SS and from 3”-54” for the PVDF knives. Our quietest (just 69 dBA at 80 PSIG) and most efficient knife (2.9 SCFM/inch) offered by EXAIR, the Super Air Knife, is the newest of the bunch. Not only does the knife consume less air than both the Standard or Full-Flow, but it also entrains more ambient air. The Super Air Knife provides ambient air entrainment at a rate of 40:1 (compared to 30:1 on the others). Also, important to note, is the airflow pattern exits the knife straight from the nozzle outlet. On both our Standard and Full-Flow knives, the air exits perpendicularly to the nozzle.
All Super Air Knives ship from stock with ¼ NPT air inlets and ¼-20 tapped holes along the bottom that can be used for mounting. ¼ NPT air inlets are available at either end as well as along the bottom of the knife. Unfortunately, that isn’t always going to work for every application, so we also manufacture specials with custom air inlets as well as additional mounting holes to fit right onto any custom bracket. Both the length of the knife and the airflow length are the same when it comes to the Super Air Knife.
Next is our Standard Air Knife. The original Air Knife provided by EXAIR, the Standard Air Knife has been around since the early days. While still an excellent solution, it doesn’t offer as much as the Super Air Knife in terms of mounting options, materials, or sizes. The actual length of the knife for the Standard Air Knives will be 1” longer than the overall airflow width. This is due to the ¼ NPT air inlets located on either side that take up ½” space each. Only the end air inlets are available to supply to the knife, compared to either end and along the bottom for the Super Air Knives. These knives are offered in either aluminum or 303 SS in lengths ranging from 3”-48”.
Standard Air Knife
As mentioned earlier, the Standard Air Knives airflow pattern exits perpendicularly to the nozzle exit. It’s important that this is understood BEFORE planning out the installation. Due to the wind shear produced along the Coanda profile, the Standard Air Knife is a little bit louder than the Super Air Knife coming in at 80 dBA at 80 PSIG.
Finally, we have the Full-Flow Air Knife. A predecessor to the Super Air Knife, the Full-Flow Air Knife was borne out of a need for a solution where both the length of the knife and the airflow width where the same. Prior to the Super Air Knife, this was the only option that was offered that the length of the airflow pattern would match that of the knife itself.
Moving the air inlets from the ends to the center, the Full-Flow Air Knife has different dimensions than the Standard Air Knife. The differences in dimensions allow it to be the “smallest” profile knife offered off-the-shelf (see a prior Custom Air Knife Blog for some examples of some even smaller!). Just as with the Standard Air Knives, the airflow exits perpendicularly to the nozzle outlet. As such, the sound level is also a little bit higher, coming in at 80 dBA.
The same materials are offered as the Standard Air Knives: aluminum and 303 SS. The Full-Flow Air Knife is available in lengths ranging from 3”-36” in stock.
There’s a reason EXAIR is the industry leader in compressed air-operated knives. Don’t just take my word for it, get one in-house and try it out for yourself! All products shown in the catalog in stock are available with our Unconditional 30-Day Guarantee. If you’re unhappy with the performance for any reason, we’ll arrange for full credit on the original invoice once returned within the first month.
