Super Air Amplifiers: Smart Ways to Improve Your Processes

If you rely on compressed air for blow off, cooling, or ventilation, you already know the challenges: high energy costs, excessive noise, and inconsistent performance. That is where EXAIRโ€™s Super Air Amplifiers can make a measurable differenceโ€”helping you move more air, use less compressed air, and solve problems more efficiently.

How Super Air Amplifiers Can Help You

Whether you are trying to improve throughput, reduce costs, or create a safer working environment, Super Air Amplifiers are designed with your goals in mind:

  • Get more airflow from the air you already use
With amplification ratios up to 25:1, you can turn a small amount of compressed air into a powerful, high-volume airflowโ€”helping you do more without increasing consumption.
  • Reduce noise on your plant floor
If loud blowoff or open pipes are a concern, these units provide a balanced, laminar airflow that can be up to three times quieter, helping improve working conditions and support OSHA compliance by lowering overall noise within an application.
  • Lower operating costs
By using compressed air more efficiently, Super Air Amplifiers help cut down on energy wasteโ€”especially compared to open tube blowoffs or inefficient nozzles.
  • Minimize maintenance and downtime
With no moving parts, you do not have to worry about wear, breakdowns, or constant upkeep. Install them and focus on productionโ€”not repairs.
  • Adapt to your exact application
Adjustable shims allow you to fine-tune airflow and force, so whether you need gentle drying or aggressive blowoff, you can dial in the performance you need. Use of a pressure regulator in addition, provides even finer adjustment of force and flow to really dial in exact needs.
  • Install quickly and move easily
Compact, lightweight design with mounting flange makes Super Air Amplifiers simple to integrate into existing equipment or reposition as your process evolves.

Improve Your Blowoff and Drying – Super Air Amplifiers are built to solve everyday production challenges across a wide range of applications:

If you are struggling with parts that are not drying fast enough or debris that will not clear, Super Air Amplifiers can:

  • Clean chips, coolant, or contaminants from machined parts.
  • Blow away saw dust and chips from wide swaths to keep sensors clear.
  • Dry parts on conveyors without slowing production.
  • Reach complex geometries like channels and blind holes.

In real-world use, manufacturers have combined Super Air Amplifiers with targeted air jets to clean difficult transmission components that other methods could not manage effectively.

Speed Up Your Cooling Process

If hot parts are creating bottlenecks or safety concerns:

  • Cool castings faster without damaging them. Blowing ambient temperature air onto a glowing hot part is the industrial equivalent to blowing on a hot cup of coffee (the temperature differential is already there; the Super Air Amplifier delivers the large volume of cooling airflow to get the job done quickly.
  • Reduce waiting times for operators.
  • Keep production lines moving.

For example, a foundry eliminated delays caused by overheated parts by installing multiple units over a conveyorโ€”allowing workers to handle parts immediately instead of waiting.

Improve Ventilation and Air Movement

If your workspace needs better airflow, the Super Air Amplifierโ€™s Suction or Discharge end can be used effectively to:

  • Move heat away from critical areas.
  • Ventilate confined spaces.
  • Improve comfort and safety for operators.

Solve Unique or Challenging Applications

Super Air Amplifiers are not limited to traditional uses. They have even been used to create instant, high-velocity air blasts for special effects where conventional blowers failed due to noise or slow response. They have also been used in rather hi-tech applications such as protecting lasers and removing microscopic debris from etching operations in the semiconductor industry to produce finer detail and less contamination.

Integration Into Automated Systems

Super Air Amplifiers can be controlled automatically through use of EXAIRโ€™s EFC โ€“ Electronic Flow Control System to turn the Super Air Amplifier on and off as needed to further save on compressed air use. It is also possible to control them with a simple, solenoid valve that can be tied into your own control system to provide the same, only when needed effect.

Why This Matters For You

Many facilities rely on makeshift solutionsโ€”open pipes, drilled tubing, or oversized blowersโ€”that seem inexpensive upfront but cost more over time in energy, noise, and maintenance. Super Air Amplifiers offer an engineered alternative with performance being paramount to design.

Super Air Amplifiers give you a better alternative by helping you:

  • Use less compressed air while achieving better results.
  • Reduce noise without sacrificing performance.
  • Improve consistency across your process.
  • Eliminate inefficiencies that slow down production.

A Simple Upgrade with Big Impact

If you are looking for a straightforward way to improve your operationโ€”without adding complexity, Super Air Amplifiers offer a proven solution. They help you clean, cool, dry, and ventilate more effectively, all while lowering costs and improving working conditions.

Bottom line: You get more performance from your compressed air systemโ€”and fewer headaches from the equipment that relies on it. I would encourage you to reach out to us and allow us to help you determine if Super Air Amplifiers can help you in your applications.

Which Air Wipe is Right for You?

When dealing with continuous cylindrical products like cables, pipes, hoses, or wire, achieving consistent and uniform 360-degree cleaning, drying, or cooling is notoriously tricky. EXAIR‘s Air Wipes solve this issue by using a “Coanda” effect to create a high-velocity, uniform ring of air that tightly hugs the material’s surface. To accommodate varying plant environments, we provide two main versions of our innovative blow-off systems: the Standard Air Wipe and the Super Air Wipe.

Both the Standard and Super Air Wipes feature a convenient split design. This means there is no need to thread the continuous material through the wipe; instead, the two halves easily clamp around the product, making installation quick and keeping your production line moving seamlessly.

Air Wipes deliver a steady stream of compressed air that exhausts through a tiny ring nozzle. This primary airflow adheres to an angled Coanda profile, creating an area of low pressure that induces a massive volume of surrounding ambient air. The resulting airstream creates a uniform 360-degree wiping action that impacts target material at a 30-degree wiping angle.

The airflow and force can be easily tuned in two ways:

  • Gross Adjustments: By adding or stacking shims to open the air gap.
  • Fine-Tuning: By adjusting the inlet air pressure using a pressure regulator.

Standard Air Wipe: The General-Purpose Solution

The Standard Air Wipe is an economical, reliable choice designed for general, non-corrosive industrial environments where temperatures do not exceed 150ยฐF (65ยฐC).

  • Materials: It features an aluminum body with polyester polymer shims and black oxide-coated alloy steel screws.
  • Hose Connection: For diameters up to 4 inches, it includes a flexible PVC coupling air hose with brass fittings to link the two halves.

Super Air Wipe: Built for Harsh Environments

If your application requires higher durability, superior corrosion resistance, or needs to withstand extreme heat, the Super Air Wipe is the way to go.

  • Materials: Constructed with stainless-steel screws, shims, and brackets.
  • Hose Connection: Models up to 4 inches are equipped with a durable, stainless-steel wire-braided hose.
  • Temperature Ratings: The Super Air Wipe can operate in temperatures up to 400ยฐF (204ยฐC) for aluminum models, and up to a scorching 800ยฐF (427ยฐC) for stainless steel models.

While performance between the two lines is physically identical, material composition dictates which product is best for your factory floor.

  • Choose the Standard Air Wipe for standard blow-off, drying, or cleaning jobs in mild, non-corrosive environments. It provides maximum efficiency at a highly cost-effective price point.
  • Choose the Super Air Wipe if your environment involves extreme heat (like right next to a furnace or heated extrusion bath) or aggressive chemicals (like harsh cleaning agents or salty seawater).
Gen4 Super Ion Air Wipe

For facilities struggling with static, we also offer the Super Ion Air Wipe, available in 2-inch and 4-inch sizes. It combines the 360-degree blow-off of a Super Air Wipe with emitter points for fast, highly efficient static dissipation.

Laminar Flow vs. Turbulent Flow: The Science Behind More Efficient Compressed Air Systems

Why Understanding Airflow Matters

Every compressed air system moves airโ€”but how that air moves determines whether you’re maximizing performance or wasting energy.

In industrial applications, airflow generally falls into one of two categories: laminar flow and turbulent flow. While turbulence has its place in applications like mixing or combustion, it is often the enemy of efficiency when it comes to compressed air blow off, cooling, and drying.

That’s why EXAIR engineers products designed to produce laminar, controlled, high-velocity airflow rather than chaotic turbulent air streams. The result is lower compressed air consumption, quieter operation, and improved process performance.

What Is Laminar Flow?

Laminar flow occurs when air travels in smooth, organized layers with very little mixing between them.

Imagine cars traveling down a highway where everyone stays in their lane at the same speed. Traffic flows efficiently with minimal disruption.

Characteristics of laminar airflow include:

  • Smooth, predictable air movement
  • Minimal energy loss
  • Lower noise levels
  • Greater directional control
  • More efficient momentum transfer

In industrial compressed air applications, laminar flow allows the air to reach the target with much more of its original energy intact.

What Is Turbulent Flow?

Turbulent flow is exactly the opposite.

Instead of orderly layers, the air is filled with constantly changing eddies and vortices. These swirling motions cause the airflow to scatter in multiple directions.

Think of rush-hour traffic with vehicles constantly changing lanes, braking, and accelerating. Energy is wasted simply trying to keep moving.

In compressed air systems, turbulence results in:

  • Increased air consumption
  • Pressure losses
  • Higher operating noise
  • Less effective blow off
  • Reduced cooling efficiency
  • Inconsistent drying performance

Unfortunately, one of the biggest sources of turbulence in manufacturing plants is also one of the most common: the open pipe.

Why Open Pipes Waste Compressed Air

Many facilities still use open copper tubing or pipe as blow off devices.

At first glance, this seems simple and inexpensive.

However, as compressed air exits an open pipe, it expands rapidly into the surrounding atmosphere. The sharp pipe edge creates intense turbulence, causing the airflow to disperse almost immediately.

The result is:

  • High compressed air consumption
  • Loud noise levels
  • Poor force at the target
  • Significant energy waste

Simply increasing supply pressure rarely solves the problemโ€”it usually makes the turbulence even worse.

How EXAIR Engineers Better Airflow

Rather than allowing compressed air to escape uncontrollably, EXAIR products are carefully engineered to optimize airflow.

Engineered Air Nozzles, Air Knives and other blow off devices

EXAIR Air Nozzles use specially designed internal geometries that entrain the surrounding ambient air.

Instead of relying solely on compressed air, they pull in additional free air from the environment, multiplying airflow while dramatically reducing compressed air consumption.

Benefits include:

  • More usable airflow
  • Reduced compressed air usage
  • Lower noise levels
  • OSHA-compliant dead-end pressure
  • Improved blow off performance

The exiting air stream remains much more organized than an open pipe, allowing more energy to reach the work surface.
