Dust Removal With Super Ion Air Knife and Light Duty Line Vac

Cap De-duster

We always enjoy solving problems for the end users of our products.  Last fall I worked with a company in Lebanon needing to remove static dust from small caps as they travelled down a conveyor line.  We discussed the needs of the application, I made model number recommendations, and the system was installed.  Using a 3” Super Ion Air Knife and a Light Duty Line Vac, the end user was able to eliminate the static, remove the dust, and vacuum away the dust as needed.

Now, this same end user is aiming to repeat the application, only this time for a larger cap.  The setup is identical – the caps travel left-to-right on the conveyor track, they are blow off with ionized air from an EXAIR Super Ion Air Knife, and the dust is collected with a Light Duty Aluminum Line Vac.  The only revision to this system (and retroactively applied to the last) was to reposition the Super Ion Air Knife so that the caps spend more time in contact with ionized air.  This allows for increased throughput, should the application ever require increased production.

It’s great to solve problems for our customers.  It’s even better when the solution worked so well that it leads to repeat business.

If you have an application in need of an EXAIR device, but aren’t sure which one to use or where to start, contact an EXAIR Application Engineer.

Audi Update:  The holiday break was slated as a perfect time to dive back into the engine concern on my latest project car, but, sadly, it didn’t happen.  Check my blog post next week for a full report.

EXAIR Super Air Wipe and Atomizing Nozzle Team Up to Clean Pipe and Apply Anti-corrosion Fluid

SS SAW

Our customer manufactures roll formed profiles such as tube, pipe, angle, flat bar, metal deck, etc. All are produced in cold rolled steel, hot rolled steel and galvanized steel. When they contacted EXAIR, their roll-former line needed a couple of solutions from EXAIR.

The process of roll forming tubes and pipes generates high temperatures because of the welding to close the tube. Thus, a lot of water is used to cool the tube while welding and avoid over heating of machine and material. This water is causing the pipe and tube to rust within a couple hours of processing. The customer’s pipe size ranges in size from ½” up to 2-1/4” outside diameter. The line speed of the machine is about 40 ft./minute.

The customer knew what they needed to do which was to blow off the water and apply an anti-corrosion type fluid to the pipe. They just didn’t know where to find such solutions until they found EXAIR. After short discussion, I recommended they start with EXAIR Model 2404 (4” Super Air Wipe) to enable blow off of the outside of their pipes to get them dry. Then 2 pcs. Of Model SR1020SS (Siphon Fed Round output) Atomizing nozzles placed on either side of the pipe and adjusted to apply a thin film of atomized anti-corrosion fluid to the outside.

In all, adding these two components to their processing line eliminated the need for future media blasting to get rid of the rust and hand-sprayer application of the same anti-corrosion fluid.

Black Friday – Nothing New

Black Friday love it or hate it, it’s just a way to drum up Christmas sales. The concept is nothing new though. In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt attempted to move the official Thanksgiving date to earlier in November to encourage a longer Christmas shopping season as a Depression recovery strategy. His idea was shut down by Congress, and the official date was declared permanently as the fourth Thursday in November via Public Law #379. So today we have Black Friday.

I do not know about you, but my idea of shopping is an internet connection and a credit card. I do not have to fight the crowds and all the traffic. Being an engineer enamored the details of the product, I can find more information on the web than from some part time clerk working the aisles.

You can shop for your compressed air products on EXAIR’s website. There you will find specifications on all our products, you can download 2D drawings or 3D models, catalog pages, etc. from our Knowledge Base. If you need assistance, we have a team of Application Engineers available by phone 1-800-903-9247, email or  by live chat – click the chat button in upper left corner.

I am an application engineer and would be happy to answer any questions or concerns that you may have.
