EXAIR has a new product: The EasySwitch™ Wet-Dry Vac

We have joined our wet vacuum with our dry vacuum to make the EasySwitch Wet-Dry Vac System.  This new addition to our Industrial Housekeeping Products allows your customers to replace their electric wet-dry vacuums that fail prematurely, have potential safety issues, and are very loud.  Below, I will share the features and benefits of the EasySwitch Wet-Dry Vac System as expected from a leader in this industry.  You can watch a video HERE.

A wet-dry vacuum is a contained system that can vacuum up liquid or dirt.  The specific design that separates the liquid application from the dry application is a filter element.  The filter will stop the dirt and debris from re-entering the surrounding air during vacuuming.  The EXAIR EasySwitch Wet-Dry Vac uses this same function for dry materials.  But we offer two different types of filters; a standard filter and a HEPA filter.  The standard filter is a 3-micron pleated element with a large surface area for long life.  The HEPA filter is a 0.3-micron pleated element for finer filtration.  But what is unique about our design is the patent pending lid to easily remove or replace the filter elements.  It makes an easy transition to go from liquid to dry materials and vice versa.   The lid is designed to fit on a common 55 gallon open-top drum.  They are ideal for any applications that is wet, dry, light or heavy.

EasySwitch Wet-Dry Vac Mode Change Instructions

Like with our other Industrial Housekeeping Products, the EasySwitch does not have any motors to wear or electricity to run which makes it safe for liquid applications.  It only needs filtered compressed air.  They are maintenance free, and the sound level is quiet, only 79 dBA.  The applications include coolant, chips, floor cleanup, drains, shavings, sawdust, absorbents, and mold and allergen removal.  For liquid applications, it has a spill free – auto safety shutoff.  This industrial all-purpose pneumatic vacuum can move 36 GPM (136 LPM) of water, 68 Lbs./min (31 Kg/min) of plastic media, and 54 lbs./min (24 Kg/min) of steel shot at 80 PSIG (5.5 bar).  The specifications at 80 PSIG (5.5 bar) for the EasySwitch is that it will only use 53 SCFM (1,500 SLPM) of compressed air to generate -168” H2O (-314 mmHg) of vacuum and 90 CFM (2,548 LPM) of vacuum flow.

EXAIR offers three types of systems with the standard filter or the HEPA filter.  We have the basic system, the Deluxe system, and the Premium system.  The basic system will come with the selected filter, 10-foot (3m) vacuum hose, 20-foot (6.1m) compressed air hose, plastic tools, shutoff valve and gage.  The HEPA filter models will include a Pre-filter to help protect the HEPA media from premature clogging.  The Deluxe system will include the items in the basic system with an upgraded antistatic vacuum hose, heavy-duty tools, a spill recovery kit, a tool holder, and a drum dolly.  The Premium system will include the items in the Deluxe system and it will include a 55 Gallon drum.  A quick guide is below.EXAIR continues to add new products to expand solutions for our customers.  If you have an application where you need an all-around vacuum system that is long lasting, reliable, and quiet; the EasySwitch Wet-Dry Vac is that product for you.  If you need more information, EXAIR has Application Engineers that can help you. Also take advantage of our Industrial Housekeeping Promotion currently running, and receive a free Vac-U-Gun with the purchase of our EasySwitch or any other industrial Vacuum.

Taking My Job home With Me (I Wish!)

Last week, as Mother Nature was doing her typical dance between warm, almost Spring like days and then quickly reverting back to her Winter ways, the southwestern Ohio area was hit with a powerful storm. Luckily, my neighborhood area was spared the really strong winds and tornadic activity that nearby areas experienced.  We did however receive a decent amount of rainfall.

Every Spring when the ground is still slightly frozen, the first good rain always leads to some water  leakage into my basement.  The water comes in through the gaps between the floor and the walls and even seeps up through some of the floor cracks.  I have my theories as to why it only happens in the spring, but I’ll save that for another day.  As the blog title says, I wish I had taken home a Reversible Drum Vac with me.

EXAIR  manufactures the Reversible Drum Vac (RDV) System, which attaches quickly to to any 30, 55, or 110 gallon closed head drum. The Mini Reversible Drum Vac has the same great performance and comes complete with a 5 gallon drum.  Coupled with the Spill Recovery Kit, using the RDV to vacuum up the rain water would have been a short and simple process.  Using a mop, towels, fans and a dehumidifier took much longer and still did not get everything dry.

30, 55 and 110 Gallon Reversible Drum Vac Systems

The compressed air operated Reversible Drum Vac System is a high powered vacuum that can fill a 55 gallon drum in less than 2 minutes, and with a simple turn of the a knob, the same stainless steel pump quickly empties the drum.  With no electric motor to wear out, or impellers to clog, the RDV is designed to work in industrial environments.  An automatic safety shutoff valve prevents the system from over-filling.

EXAIR also manufactures systems made for cleaning up solids, such as machining chips and other debris.

To discuss your application and how the EXAIR Industrial Housekeeping Products can be a benefit at your facility, feel free to contact EXAIR and myself or one of our other Application Engineers can help you determine the best solution.

“Deluxe” and “Premium”

These are two words that have been important parts of my vocabulary for most of my life. As a long time fast-food burger connoisseur, these words mean I’m getting something other than a hastily cooked ground beef patty on an enriched white flour bun that may or may not have been sitting under a heat lamp for a specific period of time. If you’re anywhere near as familiar with drive-thru cuisine as I am, you’ll know that “Deluxe” usually means a variety of toppings has been added to an otherwise relatively plain sandwich…it’s been “run through the garden,” if you will. And “Premium” can mean anything from a special bun, gourmet cheese, up-scale meat, and/or the addition of bacon…they ALWAYS get me at bacon…

I don't know what the knife and fork are doing there, but whatever...

EXAIR’s Industrial Vacuums are also available in Deluxe and Premium Kits. Now, if you’ve already got a drum, our standard Kits will quickly and economically turn that drum into a powerful, fast, and efficient vacuum system, without the need for anything fancy. If you’re looking for complete, comprehensive clean up solutions, though, our Deluxe Kits add a drum dolly, a tool holder, and additional tools. The Premium Kits also include a durable steel drum and a set of Heavy Duty Aluminum Tools.

Whatever your needs are, we’ve got an efficient, quiet, durable, long-lasting, maintenance-free vacuum system for you. Our Reversible Drum Vac will empty…or fill…a 55 gallon drum in 90 seconds (tested with water.) Our new High Lift Reversible Drum Vac pumps that same 55 gallons in just 85 seconds, with up to 15 feet of suction head. Then, of course, the Chip Trapper uses our Reversible Drum Vac technology to filter and extend the life of your machine tool coolants, lubricating oils, etc.

For solids vacuuming situations, our Chip Vac picks up wet or dry chips, debris, etc., and deposits them directly into the drum. This is the function of the Heavy Duty Dry Vac as well. It’s more powerful than the Chip Vac, for use with heavier debris, and it’s made of a hardened alloy for superior abrasion resistance. The Heavy Duty HEPA Vac delivers the same high performance, with a high efficiency filter for total dust containment.

Don’t Waste Money On Your Waste Removal

Lately, we have been receiving calls from customers that are looking for a wet/dry vac that they are accustomed to seeing in the form of an electrical vacuum for their home work shop.  They call us wanting a general clean up vacuum for their shop.  The items they are looking to clean up are coolant, dust and chips.  Our solution for this is to run two vacuums, and most people are asking why can’t it do both.  The answer – cost.

Generally, people seeking EXAIR’s pneumatic vacuums already see the value in the durability of a vacuum with no moving parts to maintain or replace when comparing to electric vacuums. It is the simplest of dollar savings,  the longer the product lasts and is maintenance free, the more money you will save from the absence of repair parts or new vacuums. And electric vacuums are notorious for burning up motors and not lasting within tough industrial environments. You can read about additional features/benefits within EXAIR’s pneumatic vacuum line here and here, but I will talk about our products specifications in detail.

EXAIR has two categories of vacuum, wet vacs and dry vacs.  The original wet vac for vacuuming coolant, swarf, or oil is the Reversible Drum Vac (RDV), used to easily empty and fill coolant sumps quickly. The Chip Trapper features a filtration system which removes chips and debris that is within the coolant, keeping the coolant clean, extending the coolant life and minimizing surfaces for bacteria to grow.  The Reversible Drum Vac and the Chip Trapper Systems use 19 SCFM of compressed air at 80 PSIG of and can fill a drum with 55 gallons of water in 90 seconds. These workhorse vacuums will last many years and withstand the rugged treatment found in hardworking manufacturing facilities.

Drum Vac

In the other category of  our industrial vacuums are the “dry” vacuums.  This term “dry” is a little ambiguous, because the vacuums will be able to move some liquid.  For instance, the liquid coating a chip or spills on the shop floor can easily be picked up with the dry vacuums.  We have a number of dry vacuums available:  The Chip Vac is a continuous duty vacuum used for general cleanup around machinery. The Chip Vac drum lid assembly can be used from drum to drum to aid in separating and recycling materials. Our Heavy Duty Dry Vac is best for applications vacuuming heavy materials, abrasive medias or longer distance (20′). And the Heavy Duty HEPA Vac is designed to provide protection from airborne particulate and is suited for dusty environments.

Exair-heavy-duty-HEPA-vacuum

To compare EXAIR products with other pneumatic vacuums, let’s look at the Chip Vac (40 SCFM at 80 PSIG) and the RDV above (19 SCFM at 80 PSIG). Combining the two vacuums you would require (59 SCFM at 80 PSIG. If you search long enough, you could find a pneumatic vacuum that is advertised as wet/dry, but this ability comes at a cost.  The most obvious cost is the upfront purchase price, which is consistently much higher than the combined cost of the (2) EXAIR units.  Also the units range in air use from 68 SCFM to 110 SCFM.  That is up to 86% more air required!

Let’s assume that you did run both constantly.  The wet/dry vac will cost you $0.14 extra an hour to run, assuming that your compressed air cost is $0.25 per 1,000 SCF.  That is really an unfair comparison to our products though, because we could have (2) vacuums operating at different locations in the plant accomplishing twice as much work.  Even still the (2) EXAIR units will save $810 per year with 250 working days in a year and 24 working hours in a day.

$810 per year may not sound like to much to you.  What if we change the scenario? How much air can you save? Let’s say you run a large wet/dry vacuum, which consumes 110 SCFM, everyday for 8 hours over 250 working days. The wet/dry vacuum will use 52,800 SCF per day or 13,200,000 SCF per year.  This compress air will cost you $3,300 just to compress that air. By comparison, the Chip Vac will only cost you $1,200 per year to run in compressed air.  Using the Chip Vac instead of the wet/dry vac, will save you $2,100 per year. in compressed air operating costs.
