EXAIR Accessories: Mag Bases and Stay Set Hoses

EXAIR Manufactures a variety of intelligent compressed air products that can cool, clean, coat, convey, and conserve.  They’re designed specifically with enhanced efficiencies, OSHA safety, and high quality in mind.  What could make our products even better?  Making them movable, with the ability to aim them exactly where you need them!  EXAIR offers Magnetic Bases and Stay Set Hoses to achieve this.  In this blog, I will cover the features and benefits of both products.

Stay Set Hoses:The Stay Set Hose gives you that possibility of manually adjusting and re-adjusting smaller EXAIR products like Super Air Nozzles and Air Jets.  The hose has a “memory” function, and it will not creep or droop until you physically move it.  They work very well in directing the air flows at specific target areas.  The Stay Set Hoses come in lengths from 6” (15cm) to 36” (91cm), and they have threaded connections with either ¼” NPT male on both ends or with a 1/8” NPT female X ¼” NPT male thread.  The hoses are made from reinforced synthetic rubber and have a pressure rating of 250 PSIG (17 bar).  They can add versatility to our Safety Air Guns and Blow-off Stations.  If you need positioning for precise blowing or adjustments for different targets, the Stay Set Hoses would be a nice addition to include with your EXAIR products.

Magnetic Bases: If you need a solid mount to steel surfaces or to move your blow-off system to different locations, a Magnetic Base will allow you to do these functions.  It has a 100 lb. (45.5Kg) pulling force to keep the blowing device attached firmly until you want to move it.  They can be mounted in a vertical or horizontal position.  EXAIR offers a single outlet Magnetic Base or a dual outlet Magnetic Base (for multiple blowing products). EXAIR Blowoff Systems For Easy Air Nozzle Installation and Aiming

EXAIR engineered Air Nozzles are quiet, efficient, and safe, which makes them ideal solutions for air blowing applications. Selection is largely determined by the size & shape of the desired air flow. Our Air Nozzles & Jets catalog section lists them all, from smallest to largest, along with performance data and airflow patterns, so determining the right one for your application is pretty easy.

The next question is, how do you install it? If it’s replacing another blowing device, odds are, you’re an adapter fitting away (if that) from a quick & easy install:

For new installations, your compressed air drop may be located some distance from the installation. Properly sized pipe or hose can get you from the drop to the point of installation, but what happens when you get there? If you use hard pipe, and you can run it right to the spot where you want the air to blow, your Air Nozzle will essentially be as well supported as the piping. A Swivel Fitting will then allow you to aim it precisely.

Compressed air hose is inexpensive and easy to work with, but it provides no support for a blow off device at the point of use. This is where EXAIR Blowoff Systems come in. Any EXAIR Air Nozzle, up to our 1/4 NPT models, can be fitted with a Stay Set Hose which, all by itself, could be used at the end of a properly supported piping run instead of a Swivel Fitting. It’ll give you more reach – they come in lengths from 6″ to 36″ – and more flexibility in adjustment than the Swivel Fittings.

If you don’t have a pipe manifold like the one shown above, but you have an iron or steel surface in close proximity, a Magnetic Base can be used. EXAIR offers three styles:

Customizing Blow-off Applications

EXAIR Blowoff Systems are a combination of EXAIR air Nozzles, mag bases and Stay Set hoses. They are available in single or dual outlets and can change the length of the Stay Set Hose and/or the type of nozzle. The flexibility of this product comes in handy when an application require multiple point blowoff or requires different force values from each nozzle. Customizing allows you to fit the nozzles directly to the need of the application.

One example of this came from a customer who was running a 1950’s era Benchmaster OBI press to stamp out copper lamination and spring steel. There current set-up which can be seen bellow was not really that effective, was loose/floppy, and had been glued together. All of this made it hard for the Technician to line everything up to eject the parts. The technician reached out to us to see if we could substitute some nozzles on our dual Blow-off system with the stay set hose and dual port magnetic base (as seen above). We were able to piece together a special kit for them to swap out one of the 1103 Mini Super Air Nozzles with a 1126 1″ Flat Super Air Nozzle to match the current set-up.

Customizing the nozzles in Blow-off systems can allow for better coverage on awkwardly shaped parts that might have a mix of both smooth surfaces and crevices. Also changing out the length of the Stay Set hoses that come with the kits can allow you to reach all sides when centrally located mounting is not applicable. Using two different length stay set hoses can also allow for two different blow off points to share the same mounting and air line; this means your maintenance team wont have to bring in multiple drops which I’m sure they will appreciate.
