Super Sized Is Not A Problem At EXAIR

For many years we as Americans wanted to biggie size, super size, or mega size anything and everything we could.   For myself that mainly meant the fries and drink I used to get at any local fast food joint.   Now that I have hit my mid-30s and all of that has started to catch up to me, I don’t always want the large fry or any fries at all, instead I might try a new salad and trying to eat healthy.  Here at EXAIR, we don’t always associate bigger with better but we do always fill the need when we don’t have something off the shelf.

However, there are still occasions where going super size is necessary and this week, we did just that.   We had a customer ask if we can go bigger on our Super Air Wipes.   We simply asked how big they needed to go and what the reasoning is for it.  Turns out, the reasoning for the larger Super Air Wipe was a newly designed automated cell in a pipe manufacturing facility.   The stock 11″ was too small to fit the 11″ max. diameter piece through to blow off debris so they requested a 12″ Super Air Wipe.   To top off the customization, they were also in need of BP threaded air inlets.

Catalog 30 Stock Air Wipe Sizes

Within a matter of weeks our customer has gone from a product they didn’t know was possible, to shipping out to their site.  This is a one off, custom machined, Super Air Wipe that has a 12″ Throat Diameter.   The only parts on this that are from our standard stock are the bolts, stickers, and the connecting / hinge plates(The clam shell design requires these.).

If you have an application where you don’t think we have exactly what you need or maybe you need to go bigger, or smaller, than what we show in the catalog don’t move on and try to find something else.   Give an Application Engineer a call and we will see how we can tailor our products to your exact needs.

Need A Flange? We Can Do That!

I recently had a customer call in that was trying to boost an exhaust on a hot operation that he had in his facility.   We discussed what kind of fumes he was trying to evacuate and it appeared at face value that a High Temp Air Amplifier would be the perfect solution for his application.

Then the words that strike fear into some manufacturers came out.  The customer asks, do you have any way to put a 4 bolt flange onto the unit so I can mount it straight into my piping system?   My response, “All I need are the dimensions of the flange you need and we will see what is possible.”  After a few further questions and verification, we had a drawing  with dimensions of a Flanged High Temp Air Amplifier.  We sent the drawing to the customer for approval, and once approved, we began to manufacture the custom product and provided it to the customer.  This unit will allow the customer to easily boost the exhaust on his operation and will bolt straight into his piping so there are no worries on his end about exhaust gas escaping.  His 500°F air temperature of the gases are of no concern to this special as it carries with it the high temperature rating of 700°F.  The pictures below show the Special – Flanged High Temp Air Amplifier.

The O.D. of the flanges was 6″ with 4 – 3/4″: bolt holes. The Bolt holes were not required to align with the opposing side.

If you think there is no way we can find a product that will fit your compressed air application, or adapt a product to fit then give us a call, you might just be surprised at what we can offer in a quick turn around.

Custom Air Knives, Custom Vortex Tubes, Custom Line Vacs. What About Custom Air Nozzles?

At EXAIR we are far from shy that we offer custom solutions.   As a matter of fact, almost every catalog section has a handful of pictures that are special or custom units that we have made for our customers over the years.   We continue to add special items to our database regularly.   This could be anything from a special length Super Air Knife, a Vortex Tube with a special fitting or temperature setting, sanitary flanges on a Line Vac, or even most recently, a special 2″ Flat Super Air Nozzle.

A closer look at the Safety Wire that holds the bolts from backing out.

This Special 2″ Flat Super Air Nozzle came from the customers requirement to use a mechanical fastener in order to ensure all hardware will not back out or come loose.  The 2″ Flat Super Air Nozzle is already held together by two button head cap screws that are thread locked into place in order to prevent them from loosening.  This customers requirement was not met by our standard procedures, so we stepped outside of the box yet again and have offered them a special 2″ Flat Super Air Nozzle with bolts that are held tight by safety wire.

Safety wire is a very popular practice in Aerospace, motorcycle racing, and even some packaging processes.   The Stainless Steel wire is twisted and wrapped around the bolt heads in a manner that will not permit either bolt from loosening and falling out.   However, it can be removed, the nozzle can then be cleaned, and the safety wire can then be replaced for preventative maintenance needs.

If you are in the need for something that you don’t directly see in our product offering, or maybe you simply need something like a bolt style changed.   Contact us and see what we can do for you.   Chances are, we will meet your needs with ease and even be in a timely fashion.

R&D…&D Research & Development Daily

research

I tend to find myself doing quite a bit of research, whether here at work or at home.   Any time I am looking to buy something or test something I am constantly trying to find out if someone has already done it or if they haven’t, can I get my money back if it doesn’t work. Whenever I am trying something new, I always want to make sure I have all the information and just in case it still doesn’t work, be able to minimize my out of pocket cost in the end.

This is why, when you call EXAIR and ask us for a custom product when you are just trying something out, we offer a stock product first to get a base line.  If the stock product doesn’t exactly fit, say you need a 20.5″ long Super Air Knife, we would recommend to test either an 18″ or 24″ stock Super Air Knife to see if it is a viable option.   Once you have tested the stock length then you can simply let us know, within 30 days from the date of purchase, and return the unit.  Then place the order for the custom product that is exactly what you want.

Special Super Air Knife

Not only do we work with you and try to get you exactly what you need, we also will pull from all the experience that the entire company has to help you figure out what is going to work best for your application.   Not to say we have seen everything and done everything, but we are pretty darn close.

If you have any questions or need help with a research and development project you might be working on, give us a call, email, fax or chat.
