Snow Snow Go Away

Enough already! Enough is enough! I am done with Winter!

I’m sure that I am expressing the sentiments of  most the nation.   In my sixty some years I cannot remember a winter this severe. I shouldn’t complain though as I have heat and electricity, unlike those who are caught up in the propane shortage.

When you come to think of it, folks in the extreme northern climates deal with this kind of weather as a normal routine. It just proves that we have become so accustomed to a controlled environment, that we have lost our resilience and the ability to cope  outside our comfort zone. I am going to take this as a wake up call and stop complaining and go take the dog for a walk.

With cold gripping the country, you would not think that we would be getting calls for our Cabinet Cooler Systems. Quite the contrary as many control panels are in very warm environments such as foundries, bakeries, etc. Also Summer will be coming soon. It would be best to get a Cabinet Cooler System sized up and ready rather than wait for a heat related shutdown.

Our application engineers are available to help you size up your cooling requirements. We have an online form to outline  the data we will need to size one up properly. One of our engineers will do the calculations for you and get back to you promptly. Remember last summer when that one panel kept tripping out or alarming every time it got too hot…You may be cold now, but don’t let the heat sneak up on you.

How Could EXAIR Help With The Olympics?

With the Winder Olympics now officially underway I have been trying to figure out just how EXAIR could be a part of the process.  Maybe not in the forefront, but what are some applications that are there and have potential for being done by or improved by an EXAIR product.

The first even/ sport I thought of was Hockey.  When a skate is sharpened they generally do a dry grinding stone.  This can heat up the blade and cause it to become brittle.   The best way EXAIR can help is to offer a Cold Gun or a Mini Spot Cooler to apply a cold dry air to the grinding point and keep both the material and the stone cool to offer maximum tool life as well as a finer finish on the blade.  (This could probably be used in figure skating too but we’ll stick to hockey for this example.)

The second point was during any of the celebratory events where confetti is dispensed an EXAIR Line Vac or a Super Air Amplifier to help dispense the confetti.  We showcase how well this works in one of the Professor Penurious videos.

The final would be the best in my opinion which is to use a Line Vac for a T-Shirt Cannon.  Which would help to spread the promotional items in the common areas. We have customers who build awesome t-shirt cannons used at sporting events, I’m just not sure they get the crowd that hyped up within the curling stadium.

So whether you are in the Olympics or simply trying to make some parts for a customer we probably have a product that can help.  Feel free to contact us and find out how.

High Temperature, Dual Cabinet Cooler Systems Make the Grade for Extreme Duty Operation

HTDCC

EXAIR Corporation and our products have a robust presence in many overseas places. I should know. I work directly with many of our overseas clients, especially in the Middle East region where just the ambient temperatures climb to 60°C (140°F). If you take that high heat ambient condition and throw in the fact that our customers are working in petrochemical, chemical, cement, glass and plastic industries, the conditions in these manufacturing plants can be torturous not only to personnel but also to the many cabinets which reside in these processes.

I am working presently with a customer in Saudi Arabia who specializes in production of specialty pipe products which combine glass-fiber, resin and sand to produce pipes which can withstand highly corrosive and/or abrasive applications. When you have these kinds of raw materials moving around a production environment, you not only have the issue of high heat conditions, but also the egress of these fine materials into various panels causes many pre-mature failures. As many of us know, housekeeping will usually take a back seat to production. So, the customer is looking for a solution that can keep their panels cool enough to operate and also provide a means to keep a positive pressure to keep these raw materials from migrating inside their panels.

The specific application we are starting with is a panel located very near to where the sand charge is dumped into a mixer to be combined with the resin. The cabinet size is 1200 mm (h) X 1200 mm (W) X 400 mm Depth. The temperatures in this area get up to 60°C and with his internal heat load, his cabinet is getting up to 51°C under present conditions. I asked the customer to fill out a Cabinet Cooler Sizing Guide for me so I could have all the data necessary to run heat load calculations for him. We performed the calculations and came up with 1,170 Btu/hr. that he needed in this case.

After determining the heat load, I evaluated our available HT Cabinet Cooler models and settled on one of the Dual Cabinet Cooler systems to provide them with trouble-free cooling. The specific model was HT4360-240 (NEMA 12, High Temperature, Dual Cabinet Cooler System with 240 VAC thermostat control).

Since this is a technology that the customer was not familiar with prior to our contact, he is exercising prudence and has installed one unit for the time being and is evaluating its performance. This is a fairly new installation. So far, the customer has been satisfied with the performance.

Cabinet Cooler Systems can withstand very demanding applications like the one above. With proper selection and guidance from our experienced Application Engineering staff, you can be assured of similar, good performance in your application as well.  Present us with your challenging application today!

HOT!

HOT!

I had the opportunity this week to help determine the best products to cool a conveyor in dire need of lower temperatures.  Not quite as hot and large as the image above, but similar.  Originally Kirk Edwards provided guidance to the end user and recommended Super Air Knives to bring the conveyor temperature within range.  They worked wonderfully.

Now, there was a second point on the conveyor line which was determined to also need cooling.  After discussing the potential to use a series of Super Air Amplifiers, the end user decided to stick with the Super Air Knife setup known to work well – a decision which I fully supported.

I’ve also had the opportunity to entertain and train our Thai distributor this week.  Neal Raker and I brought Vichai Srimongkolkul of OilPure Technologies up to speed on our new products and have excellent in depth application discussions.

For our international users we offer the same support and technical guidance as an end user in the United States, as well as local support through our network of competent distributors.  If you are one of our many blog readers located outside of the US and need application assistance, never hesitate to send an email or call us directly.
