EXAIR’s Soft Grip Safety Air Gun Provides Safety & Efficiency Benefits

The Soft Grip Safety Air Gun is in stock for immediate shipping and has a durable cast aluminum body that is suited for rugged industrial use.  The ergonomic design has a large trigger and a soft, comfortable grip for easy operation and keeps the hand in a comfortable position for extended periods of use. A convenient hook hanger allows for easy storage when not in use.  Aluminum Extensions (up to 72″ long) and Stay Set Hoses (up to 36″ long ) can be fitted, providing access to hard to reach places. Chip Shields are available for most models, protecting operators from flying debris, helping to meet an important part of OSHA’s requirements for the safe use of compressed air, OSHA Standard 1910.242(b).

The Soft Grip Safety Air Gun can be configured with over a dozen nozzle options, with air consumption as low as 2.5 SCFM @ 80 PSIG of supply pressure and up to 60 SCFM if needed.  Nozzle materials include Zinc Aluminum alloy, 316 Stainless Steel, and PEEK (a thermoplastic polymer.)

Use of an EXAIR Soft Grip Gun with an Engineered Air Nozzle will provide a safe and efficient use of compressed air, reduce energy costs, and eliminate harmful dead end pressures (again, helping to comply with the OSHA standard for safe use of compressed air.)

When outfitted with EXAIR’s engineered air nozzles, the Soft Grip Safety Air Gun is a powerful ally to reduce personnel noise exposure and protect them from noise induced hearing loss. This is another important safety feature complying with OSHA’s standard 29 CFR-1910.95(a).

The Soft Grip Safety Air Gun can be configured to meet applications from delicate blowoff of electronic circuit boards to large chip removal in metal cutting operations, and everything in between.

Bench Testing with Blowoff Kits

Last week, a customer connected with us online via the chat option.  He explained that he was working on a project to remove dust from parts on a table conveyor, situated in a 3 x 5 array. He had purchased the EXAIR Blowoff Kits model 1909SS and model 1910 and had been able to bench test and develop a blowoff system that was successful.  He was ready to scale the up design and procure a set of nozzles and swivels that would work in the automated process.

The Blowoff Kits such as the Model 1909SS offer an easy way to explore the various nozzle types that EXAIR offers and to test the performance of each for Force, Flow and Sound Levels in your process or test environment.  Each nozzle will have particular traits, and identifying the one that most perfectly matches all your criteria can be done.

The Model 1909SS Blowoff Kit contains (7) different nozzles, all with stainless steel construction.  Included are (4) sizes of the Super Air Nozzle (10, 14, 35 and 60 SCFM capacities), the Micro Air Nozzle, the Adjustable Air Nozzle, and lastly, the 2″ Flat Super Air Nozzle.  A similar Blowoff Kit, model 1909, is available with materials of construction of zinc aluminum alloy, aluminum, and brass.

We have put together a detailed review of blowoff applications, available in the Third Edition of the Air Nozzles Blowoff Guide.  Inside, you can find the technical specifications of all of the Nozzles, Blowoff Kits, Flexible Stay Set Hoses, and Safety Air Guns, that might be of interest to you and your application.

Part Ejection Improved by Choosing the Right Air Nozzle

Recently, I was able to work with a gentlemen from a stamping company that produces small metal stamped lids for the cosmetic industry.  He was frustrated because the current blow off setup, a copper tube and nozzle (shown below), was too weak and narrow to be effective with parts ranging from 1″ to 2.5″ wide.  Whenever a lid did not get completely discharged, the machine would jam and double hit on the next cycle, ruining (2) parts in the process, not to mention, potentially damaging the the tooling.

Stamping Operation with Original Nozzle

After reviewing the process, which is very high speed, we wanted a strong, concentrated blast of air that matched the part profile to maximize the air flow contact patch.  We agreed the model HP1125 – 2″ High Power Flat Super Air Nozzle would be a good nozzle to implement and test.  In addition to the Nozzle, the customer ordered the model HP1132SS Shim Set, to allow for flow and force adjustment of the nozzle to obtain the best possible performance under production conditions.  The HP1125 nozzle provides 2.2 lbs of force with the standard .025 patented shim installed, and can be decreased or increased by changing the shim to .020″ or .030″ thick. Preliminary testing has proven successful, and reliability testing and data collection is underway.

How Much Money Will You Save with Engineered Air Nozzles

The simplicity of installing an air nozzle and the importance of saving compressed air (which in turn saves money) go hand-in-hand with our engineered air nozzle product line. For an 8 hour shift running 250 days per year, replacing one 1/4″ open air tube can save $650 dollars per year. Replacing any run-of-the-mill, commercial air nozzle can typically save $330 dollars per year!

How many open tubes or commercial air nozzles do you have?
10 tube replacements = $6500 saved per year
25 tube replacements = $16,250 saved per year
50 tube replacements = $32,500 saved per year

10 commercial nozzle replacements = $3300 saved per year
25 commercial nozzle replacements = $8250 saved per year
50 commercial nozzle replacements = $$16,500 saved per year

If you want to know EXACTLY how much replacing your current compressed air blow off devices with EXAIR engineered air nozzles will save you, take advantage of our free Efficiency Lab. We will test your current device for flow, force and noise levels with our calibrated equipment. You will receive a report with all the details, including and ROI – which is generally within weeks!Capture2

To see our complete line of nozzles, get our Blowoff Guide sent to your desk. EXAIR offers Air Nozzles ranging in thread size from our smallest Atto Super Air Nozzle with an M4 thread providing 2.0 ounces of force to our largest 1-1/4″ NPT Super Air Nozzle providing 23 lbs. of force. In addition to the various thread size and force levels, select nozzles are also offered in brass, stainless steel, zinc aluminum alloy and even PEEK plastic for superior chemical resistance or applications needing a non-marring nozzle (a maintenance crew for a large telescope used the PEEK nozzles to blow off their large mirrors). Offering such a wide variety to choose from, selection can seem like a daunting task. Luckily we have you covered with our FREE Blowoff Guide to help make the best product selection for your needs. The Blowoff Guide features performance specs as well as dimensional information and airflow patterns. Some things to consider when making a choice would be matching existing pipe size, material compatibility, noise level in the area, compressed air requirement and/or force required for successful blowoff.
