“(Stay) Set It And Forget It”

The Stay Set Hose is a popular, and practical, accessory for use with many of our blow-off products. Thread one end onto a compressed air supply connection, thread a Super Air Nozzle (or maybe even a small Air Amplifier or short Air Knife) onto the other end, and you’ve got an easily repositionable blow off…which will reliably hold its position.

That last part was of considerable importance to a caller I had the pleasure of assisting recently. Some of the CNC machines in their shop were fitted with flexible plastic tubing (commonly used for coolant & cutting fluid,) supplied with compressed air to blow off chips & debris from the tooling as the parts were being machined. They use our Super Air Knives in other blow off processes (where they used to use costly & loud open blow off devices,) and wanted to see if engineered products might reduce their compressed air consumption & noise levels in the machine shop too. (spoiler alert: Yes, they can.)

Thing is, they really needed the flexibility of the modular hose, but it’s not rated for the pressure supply required for a Super Air Nozzle. This is what makes our engineered products so efficient; they use the Coanda effect to amplify the compressed airflow..and they use the supply pressure to do that. So they can’t install a Super Air Nozzle on what they have now.

Enter the Stay Set Hoses: They’ll bend to direct the nozzles’ air flow right where you need it, and they’ll keep it there until you bend it again. Which (back to what’s most important to this caller) is exactly what they needed. With our efficient & quiet Super Air Nozzles, they’re saving compressed air and improving the conditions of their work environment. With the Stay Set Hoses, they’re able to quickly & easily rig the air flow before running a job, knowing they won’t have to worry about it until the job’s done.

EXAIR Stay Set Hoses hold their position as long as you need them to. All day, every day.

Back At Ya!

This may not be big news as it happens almost every month.  EXAIR is continuing to grow our product line and this time it is something we have never done before.  This new EXAIR Engineered Solution doesn’t blow debris away, instead, it all comes back towards you.   Why would you want this you ask?  What does this new-fangled contraption look like?  Both of those questions will be answered below.

To answer the first question, why would you ever want debris to come back at you?  Well, this isn’t for just blowing any part or area out, this nozzle has been designed for a special purpose – to blow out pipes, tubes, extrusions, and even some blind holes or pockets.   This is ideal when working on a piping system that you may need to clean out and don’t want to push debris further into the system.   It is a quick and easy way to clean out chips from a saw cut operation for tubing or extrusion.  The nozzle could even be used to clean out cylinders or crank shaft openings on engine blocks.

So what is the name of this new nozzle and what does it look like?

What does it look like already!

The EXAIR Model 1006SS - Back Blow Nozzle

The EXAIR Model 1006SS – Back Blow Nozzle

This is it, the EXAIR model 1006SS Back Blow Nozzle.   The nozzle features a 1/4″ FNPT air inlet, a 3/4″ O.D. to fit into piping, extrusion, or holes, and two flats which allow for the use of a 5/8″ wrench to install the nozzle.   The nozzle is constructed of 316 Stainless Steel, utilizes  22 SCFM when operated at 80 psig, gives off 80 dBA and is designed for use with 7/8″ to 4″ I.D. pipe, tube, or holes.

The unit will also be available on our Safety Air Guns with Chip Shields to offer cleaning excellence and protection for the operators.  Like all of the stock EXAIR products, this is available with our 30 day guarantee.   So if you are not sure whether this nozzle will work on your application, give us a call, get one in, and put it through the paces.   If the Back Blow nozzle doesn’t meet your needs, simply let us know within 30 days from the date of purchase and we will take it back and provide you full credit.

If you want to discuss this nozzle or any other compressed air application, don’t hesitate to contact us.

EXAIR Super Air Wipe Provides Measurement Process Improvement

One of the most repeatable aspects of EXAIR products is the ability to make sustainable, measurable improvements to an application.  Whether the application need is for spot cooling to improve process speeds, static elimination to eliminate defects, or debris blow off to improve quality, EXAIR products fit the bill time and time again.

Air Wipe cleaning shavings from hub

Model 2403 Super Air Wipe used to clean shavings from OD of hub

In the photo above the hub is used as a quality checking device after a machining process.  The hub remains stationary while a machined part is brought into the application via robot.  During the mating of the machined part to the hub, to check proper fit and tolerance, small chips were becoming trapped between the hub measurement sensors and the machined part.

To eliminate this disturbance a 3” Super Air Wipe was installed to keep the OD of the measuring hub clean and free of debris.  Since installing the Super Air Wipe, debris and damage related measurement errors have been reduced to zero.

These tighter quality control capabilities have increased the efficiency of the application and reduced the need to rework existing product.

If you have a similar application, or one for which you think an EXAIR solution may be viable, contact an EXAIR Application Engineer.
