Vac-u-Gun: Low Cost Vacuum, Blowoff and Transfer

What is the Vac-u-Gun?  It is a low cost solution to many types of cleaning operations within an industrial setting.  The Vac-u-Gun is a vacuum gun, a blow gun, and a transfer tool, all-in-one! It is lightweight, easy to use, has durable die cast construction, and best of all, no moving parts to wear out. Simply hook up to a compressed air hose, and get to work.

Vac u Gun Hose

The Vac-u-Gun contains a nozzle insert that dictates the direction of air flow and operation. By simply unscrewing the the cap, reversing the orientation of the nozzle insert, and re-installing the cap, the gun is changed from a vacuum device to a blowoff device, and vice-versa.

The Vac-u-Gun can be used in three modes- Vacuum, Transfer and Blowoff-

Vacuum Mode – Vacuum shavings, absorbents, sawdust, or spills into a reusable bag, or into a receptacle via the vacuum hose. Why blow it off and the have to sweep it up later?

Transfer Mode – Transfer small parts, pellets, or trim over long distances, using the smooth bore vacuum hose.

Blowoff Mode – Blow chips, water, coolant, or scrap away from the work area. The large 1-1/4″ diameter outlet directs the air over a larger area in less time. The Vac-u-Gun uses less compressed air than an ordinary blow gun.

Vac-U-Gun Specifications

There are many advantages to a Vac-u-Gun, and some are:

Low cost, no moving parts/maintenance free, durable die cast construction, easy to switch form vacuum to blow mode, safe – no electricity, meets OSHA pressure requirements, lightweight and portable, versatile, and quiet.

Versatile!  In just seconds, the Vac-u-Gun can transform from a powerful, handheld vacuum tool into an efficient blow gun or transfer tool for lightweight materials. Each Vac-u-Gun System comes with the attachments needed to suit numerous industrial applications.

Three (3) Vac-u-Gun System options are available and shown below-

Vac-u-Gun System Options

All of the Systems include the Vac-u-Gun, brush, crevice tool, skimmer tool and (2) extension wands.

The Model 6192 Collection System also includes the reusable bag with clamp for debris collection.

The Model 6292 Transfer System also includes the vacuum hose, for transferring the debris to a collection point.

The Model 6392 All Purpose System also includes both the reusable bag and clamp and the transfer hose, providing the most versatility of all.

How Versatile Are EXAIR Compressed Air Products?

I wish I could quantify that, but we keep finding more and more applications for them:

Vortex Tubes are used all the time for cooling applications, down to MINUS 40 degrees (Fahrenheit OR Celsius…that’s the point where they’re both the same; no math required.) They also produce a HOT air flow, which we usually call “exhaust,” but some users actually use IT for heating, and call the COLD flow the “exhaust.”

The EXAIR Vortex Tube. Cold air from one end; hot air from the other. Fully adjustable. You can use either...it's fine with us; whatever you need.

Our E-Vac Vacuum Generators are popular for “pick-and-place” jobs…hook one up to a Vacuum Cup and you can move parts around all day long. One time, though, I helped a

customer who needed to “pick-and-place” individual small pieces of woven fabric, a lot like a coffee filter. Even our smallest E-Vac, supplied from a Pressure Regulator cranked all the way down, was too much…it would still pick up most of the stack. We found they could use a Model 120020 3/4″ Super Air Amplifier just fine…the Pressure Regulator was still cranked all the way down, and it picked them up one at a time.

No matter what you need to pick-and-place, we've got you covered.

Our Super Air Knives are perfect for blow off, drying, and cooling applications…whether you’re trying to rid your product of dirt/debris, water, or heat, a laminar curtain of adjustable air flow is a “textbook” solution. But I recently had the pleasure of helping a customer who needed to KEEP SOMETHING IN PLACE and called to ask about an Air Knife. They had small cups running single-file down a conveyor belt, with an overhead brush roller pushing down on them at one point so they could be treated on one side. Without something holding them in place, the tooling would simply push them off the side of the conveyor. It required frequent adjustment because they run different sized cups…and they almost always lost some cups when they switched to a different size, while “dialing in” the brush tension. By installing a Model 110036 36″ Aluminum Super Air Knife in place of the brush, they can hold any size cup in place with the downward air flow “curtain.” No more lost product when they don’t get the brush adjustment just right!

Continuous, even, fully adjustable curtain of air...EXAIR Super Air Knives come in lengths from 3 inches to 9 feet.

If you have a compressed air application you’d like to discuss, give me a call.  Perhaps we’ll find the next level of versatility!

Is there a nozzle for that? You bet there is!

As an Application Engineer here at EXAIR we receive inquiries via e mail, live chat, phone, even Twitter.  No matter the method the result is always the same, an honest recommendation for a solution to your compressed air application. This means we have to know the abilities of all EXAIR products.  This is a list that spans 16 product lines and the one I would like to focus on today is the Air Nozzle and Jet category.

In the Air Nozzle and Jet section of our catalog we stock 59 different Air Nozzles and Jets.  This includes four different materials and threads ranging from 4mm x 0.75 to 1-1/4″ NPT.  The force range is anywhere from 2 ozs. of force at 80 PSIG all the way up to 23 pounds of force at 80 PSIG.  This means we have a nozzle that will blow anything from a grain of rice to a  pipe wrench across the floor.

The best thing about our Engineered Super Air Nozzles is they are so versatile, they can be used on an open pipe to reduce air consumption, noise while increasing safety; clamped on with a compression fitting to a copper pipe, used with our stay set hoses, our swivel fittings, or even attached to an existing or brand new safety air gun.

When an 1102 Mini Super Air Nozzle was used to replace a 1/8th” NPT open pipe a savings of $1,872.00 USD was achieved in one year.  This is from just a single nozzle that is about the size of a small thimble.  That is less than a one week return on investment for this nozzle.

So if you have an open pipe blow off or use commercial air guns in your facility, give us a call and let us see how much compressed air and money you can save.   (Plus it will give the Professor something to get all giddy about!)
