The Advantage of EXAIR Air Jets

EXAIR’s Engineered Air Jets provide a superior solution to minimize compressed air usage and reduce noise levels for compressed air blow-off operations.

When compared to commonly used, open copper tubes or pipes, Air Jet compressed air savings can be as high as 80%. With less compressed air moving out of the Air Jet, sound levels are reduced to a manageable level. 10 dBA noise level reductions are typical.  All EXAIR Air Jets are compliant with OSHA guidelines for dead end pressure and sound level exposure.

EXAIR Nozzles and Jets are designed and manufactured to take advantage of the Coanda (wall attachment of a high velocity fluid) effect which can amplify the airflow volume up to 25 times. The compressed air exits through a small gap in the nozzle area (#1) which entrains the surrounding air from behind the nozzle. Additional air volume is entrained from behind and around the output of the Air Jet (#2) to provide the user with an “amplified” or multiplied airflow at (#3) to do the work or provided the intended effect desired. More force with less air consumption and less noise is the goal.

How the EXAIR Air Jet Works

The Air Jets are supplied with 1/8 NPT male threads and blow air out at a right angle from the inlet. They produce a vacuum on the larger diameter side which pulls in surrounding ambient air into the total output flow. Air Jets are available in brass or Type 303 stainless steel. You can choose from a fixed flow style or an adjustable flow style to provide flexibility for your applications. The adjustable flow models have a clear micrometer air gap indicator on the side of the body, opposite the inlet, to assure consistent and accurate results. All of our Air Nozzles and Jets  are engineered to meet or exceed OSHA Standard 1910.24(b) for 30 PSIG dead end pressure, they cannot be dead-ended as there is always a route for the air to escape. In addition, our products are going to meet the OSHA Standard CFR 29 – 1910.95(a) for allowable noise exposure levels. This means you can operate them with input pressures well above 30 PSIG to get harder hitting forces while still remaining OSHA compliant. This ability for our Air Jets to accomplish this task is where the rubber meets the road so to say.

EXAIR’sSwivel Fittings Make it easy to adjust the position of the Air Jets.  The fittings allow for movement of up to 25° off axis for a total movement of 50°.  There are nine different models available and all of them are made from stainless steel

Benefits of Engineered Air Jets and Nozzles

EXAIR’s Engineered Air Nozzles and Air Jets provide a superior solution to minimize compressed air usage and reduce noise levels for compressed air blow-off operations.

Air Nozzles and Jets – when compared to commonly used open copper tubes or pipes the compressed air savings can be as high as 80%. With less compressed air, sound levels are greatly reduced.  A 10 dBA noise level reduction is typical.  All EXAIR Air Nozzles and Jets meet OSHA guidelines for dead end pressure and sound level exposure standards.
EXAIR Air Jets

EXAIR Nozzles and Jets are designed and manufactured to take advantage of the Coanda (wall attachment of a high velocity fluid) effect which can amplify the airflow up to 25 times. The compressed air exits through the small holes on the nozzle which entrains the surrounding air. The effect from this is a high volume, high velocity blast using less compressed air.  EXAIR manufactures many sizes and styles of air nozzles from the smallest, but quite powerful M4 x 0.5 thread Atto Super Air Nozzles to our largest 1-1/4 NPT Super Air Nozzle.  We also offer Flat Super Air Nozzles, and the Back Blow style nozzle for cleaning out tubes, pipes, channels or holes from 1/4″ to 16″ in diameter.

The Air Jets are 1/8 NPT threads and blow air out at a right angle from the inlet. They produce a vacuum on the larger diameter side which pulls in surrounding ambient air into the total output flow. Air Jets are available in brass or Type 303 stainless steel. You can choose from a fixed flow style or an adjustable flow style to provide flexibility for your applications. The adjustable flow models have a clear micrometer air gap indicator to assure consistent and accurate results.

EXAIR’s Flat Super Air Nozzles have been blowing away the competition since 2003.

EXAIR’s Swivel Fittings make it easy to adjust the position of the Air Nozzles and Air Jets.  The fittings allow for movement of 25° form the center axis for a total movement of 50°.  There are nine different models available and all of them are made from stainless steel

Unique Nozzle Application Eliminates Procedure for Tobacco Processing Facility

1006ss_3up_500

I recently worked on a unique application for EXAIR’s Back Blow Nozzle. Generally, these products are used to clean out chips, debris, and coolant from the ID of pipes or tubes. With (3) different sizes available to clean out IDs ranging from ¼”-16” it’s the ideal solution for cleaning out pipes where blowing forward into the pipe won’t work. They’re also available on the end of a Safety Air Gun with extensions up to 72” long, allowing you to get to hard to reach areas.

This particular application, however, was slightly different. The customer has a large machine that rotates a large drum to dry the tobacco, much like a standard clothes dryer. Inside of this drum is a “spray boom” with an angled top designed to prevent the tobacco from settling and sticking in large quantities. At the end of this “spray boom” are Atomizing Nozzles used to apply a cleaning solution after each drying process is completed at the end of the shift.  Unfortunately, the angled design didn’t work quite as well as they’d intended.

The customer needed a solution that could periodically clean off the boom while the drying was in operation. It wasn’t reasonable to do this at the end of the drying process once the majority of material had passed through. The accumulated tobacco on the boom was perfectly usable product and anything stuck after the cleaning operation would have to be thrown out as waste. In order to clean the boom and allow the stuck tobacco to remain as usable product, we needed an automated solution.

The customer installed (4) of the 1006SS Back Blow Nozzles situated around the boom to remove any stuck-on product during the drying process. The results spoke for themselves, at 90 PSIG it removed a 14” wide radius of material from the surface. By implementing the Back Blow Nozzle they were able to reduce waste and eliminate a daily 1-hour long cleaning process to remove stuck on material from the boom.

Just because it’s an outside-the-box application for one of our products, doesn’t mean it won’t work!! With EXAIR’s Unconditional 30-Day Guarantee, you can test any of our stock products out before committing to keep them. Reach out to an Application Engineer today if you have a unique application you’d like to discuss!

This Is A Hold Up

To clarify, right off the bat:

  1. Nobody is getting robbed here.
  2. Nothing is being delayed, especially a shipment from EXAIR. If it’s in the catalog, it ships on time, 99.97% of the time, for 17 years & running. This has nothing to do with this blog; I just never get tired of bragging about that.

Today I wanted to write about installing EXAIR products, but hey, it’s Friday, so I thought I’d start with something that would get your attention. If you’re still reading, I guess it worked.

We talk to users…and potential users…all the time about how to install an Air Knife, Air Nozzle, Vortex Tube, etc. And the answer is…it depends. But, it’s almost always quick and easy.

Consider the EXAIR Super Air Knife. There are a few ways to hold one in place:
*There are 1/4″-20 tapped holes, every 2″ along the bottom. These can be used to bolt it to just about anything you want to bolt it to.
*The 1/4″-20 cap screws can also be replaced with fasteners of sufficient length to allow use of a bracket. In fact, this is what we use for…
*The Universal Air Knife Mounting System – it’s a quick and convenient way to support an Air Knife. It’s especially beneficial to precisely position the Super Air Knife for optimum performance.
*Last but not least, Super Air Knives 24″ and longer need to be plumbed to both ends for proper performance. If you hard pipe it in, it’ll be as well supported as the piping.

EXAIR Super Air Knives are easy to install, no matter what the length, or application.

Then there’s our Super Air Nozzles:
*With standard, common NPT threads, these are easy to install anywhere you have an existing air line. You can get NPT adapters for darn near any threaded connection, off the shelf, from a friendly local air compressor or hydraulic/pneumatics shop.
*We’ve got Stay Set Hoses in lengths from 6″ to 36″ – these let you reposition the Air Nozzle at will. It’ll “stay set” until you bend it again.
*Our Swivel Fittings can be used with any of our Super Air Nozzles, as well as our Air Amplifiers, for sturdy, yet easily repositionable, installation.

EXAIR Swivel Fittings or Stay Set Hoses - no better way to optimize your air flow than aiming it where it needs to be!

We’re even committed to making our air preparation accessories easy to install…our Automatic Drain Filter Separators, Oil Removal Filters, and Pressure Regulators (up to 1/2 NPT) can be coupled via a modular block assembly that eliminates a threaded connection between them, and is ideal for close quarters.
