Setting Goals, Achieving Results

The other day I was talking with my co-worker Russ Bowman about my oldest son’s recent string of success at school (okay I was bragging). I was telling him that the other night we were going over some of his schoolwork to get him ready for a science quiz he had the next day and how I was a little concerned because he was having some trouble retaining the information.

I spent an hour or so going over things with my son when I decided he was about as prepared as he was going to be for the test. When I picked him up the next day after work, the conversation went something like this:

Me: “So tell me dude, how’d you do on your science test today?”
Son: “I think I did OK dad, wasn’t too bad.”
Me: cringing a little… “Too bad huh? Well when do you find out your score?”
Son: “Next week sometime, BUT I did find out that I scored a 100 on my spelling test, for the TWENTIETH time in a row!”
Me: “Spelling test, you didn’t tell me about the spelling test??? You really got a 100 for the 20th consecutive time?”
Son: “Yup, so what do I get?”
Me: “What do you get? Sounds like you get an A+!!!”

Good job buddy!

When I was telling Russ this part of the story and sort of reliving the moment, it dawned on me (with a little help from Russ)….. you know what, getting a perfect score on a test, TWENTY times in a row is an awesome accomplishment for a 9 year old, maybe he does deserve something special for that. So I guess I’ll be heading to the sporting goods store in the very near future.

See, I don’t really have to worry about my son’s schoolwork because he takes it on himself to do well. In fact, he’s usually more upset with himself if he brings home anything less than an A. In 1st grade, he made what his school calls the “Administrator’s List” for elementary school students who maintain an A/B average and have great attendance. Last year in 2nd grade, he set a goal for himself to make the “Pastor’s List” which is the highest honor the school awards for students with a straight A average for the entire year and he made it happen! This year, he hopes to do it again and the way things are going, I think he’ll be just fine.

EXAIR’s 2015 Year End Review!

In case you were too busy to notice, it’s 2016!  With the start of the new year I would like to review just a few milestones EXAIR reached which will help continue to serve our customers and provide solutions to manufacturing problems. The year was extremely busy for us and so far, 2016 is looking to be even better.

Throughout the course of the last year EXAIR has released hundreds of new products. We continue to increase our Atomizing Spray Nozzle product line and we received the official patent on our No Drip Atomizing Spray Nozzles. The No Drip versions of our spray nozzles have a patented design which helps conserve precious liquids, including water, while also preventing drips which could affect your product finish.

Our new line of Back Blow nozzles have been created to clean the inside of pipe, tube, hose, channel or shafts and prevent the operator from pushing debris further inside by directing the airflow and debris back out toward the nearest end. We have also outfitted our air guns with these nozzles to provide an easy to activate and ergonomic solution. EXAIR also expanded our swivel fitting, air operated conveyor, industrial housekeeping and Cabinet Cooler product lines. See our website for more information on these products. These new stock products ship same day on orders received by 3 PM EST for orders within the United States.

Custom products helped solve problems for hundreds of customers with manufacturing solutions that just didn’t quite fit the bill of our off the shelf products. Since we are a manufacturer (located in Cincinnati, OH) we have the ability to modify stock products, create custom solutions, provide timely information and fast lead times for special products. We blog about specials a lot and we continue to help customers with custom fit products that will surpass their expectations.

With all of the new products and customs, we continued to achieve higher levels of shipping accuracy.  We now have a 20 year streak of shipping complete, on time, correct orders if over 99.9%! There are not many companies that I deal with on a personal level or through EXAIR which can claim their accuracy is this high.

When we weren’t shipping orders or helping customers with custom solutions we also managed to post more than 1 blog per business day, I don’t even want to count the thousands of other Social Media posts we have done, and released numerous videos of tips and tricks for many of our products.

The message I am trying to get across is that we press forward here at EXAIR.  We are constantly making moves and trying to ensure that we offer our customers every item they may need, in a timely manner, correctly, of high quality, and easy to do business with.

That is the only way that we can continue to be the best company for Intelligent Compressed Air Products!

When Business is Easy You Save Time, Money & Eliminate Frustrations

Easy to do business with – It’s more than a saying we have around here; it’s something we practice at every opportunity, and every step. This may sound very “customer-service-ey,” and indeed it gets practiced in that arena a LOT, but it extends through every department in this company…from Sales & Marketing, to Order Entry & Accounting, to Engineering & Production, to Shipping & Receiving. Here’s a quick example of how it all came together just the other day:

A residential building products manufacturer has a machine located in a very dusty environment. The space is not climate controlled, and there’s a lot of hot work done there, so, even as fall temperatures cool off from the heat of summer, it still gets fairly hot, which causes the machine’s electronic controls to malfunction, and, eventually, trip off-line due to an overheat condition.

The engineer that was put in charge of solving this problem had just seen a magazine advertisement for our Cabinet Cooler Systems, and called to inquire. Within the hour, he had called me back with the data from the Cabinet Cooler Sizing Guide I sent him, and we determined that a Model 4315 NEMA 12 Cabinet Cooler System – 1,000 Btu/hr – w/Thermostat Control would fit the bill. He placed the order before we got off the phone.  Easy.

EXAIR Cabinet Cooler Systems - the easy solution to your overheating electronic controls.
EXAIR Cabinet Cooler Systems – the easy solution to your overheating electronic controls.

As a stock catalog product, this shipped the same day, thanks to the prompt attention paid to processing the order. Since they were extremely motivated to keep this machine running properly, it shipped for arrival the next morning.  Easy.

As soon as it got there, they opened the box and prepared to install it. Of course, these are designed for quick and easy installation, so they were up and running by mid-morning…less than 24 hours after the production supervisor asked his engineer for a way to keep his machine running.  Easy.

“Easy to do business with.” It’s more than a saying we have around here; it’s who we are at EXAIR. If you’re reading this blog, chances are you might already know this. Regardless, if you have a compressed air product or application that you’d like to discuss, give us a call.  Easy.

It’s The End Of The Year As We Know It

That’s right, I think I can successfully use the great R.E.M. song,(as long as you switch world with year) which has been used several times throughout this blog’s life.

The fact of the matter is, 2014 captured us in its vortex and carried us right into 2015.  It was a wild ride both at the office and home.   To start the year off right we continued releasing new products and kept it up for every month of the year.   2014 product additions are listed below with a link to their Press Release:

January – Long Ionizing Bars started off the year with lengths up to 96″ long, now available up to 108″ long!
February – 1″ High Power Flat Super Air Nozzle blew away the competition.
March – The 110 Gallon Heavy Duty HEPA Vac made a clean sweep and left the air clean and breathable.
April – Small NEMA 12 Cabinet Cooler Systems resisted the heat and dirt that pester electrical enclosures.
May – PEEK 3/8″ NPT Super Air Nozzles kept solar panels nice and clean during production.
June – Longer length Super Air Knives cover up to 108″ in a continuous length of laminar blow off.
June – Expanded sizes of our Digital Flowmeter product line
July – Catalog #27 hit the streets as our best catalog yet.
August – PEEK Pico Super Air Nozzles assured precise non-marring blowoff for delicate surfaces.
September – High Power Stainless Steel 1″ Flat Super Air Nozzles saved space and money in hot corrosive environments.
October – No Drip Internal Mix Atomizing Spray Nozzles positively stop the flow of liquid.
November – Mini Swivel Fittings for our Precision Super Air Nozzles made precise blow offs easy.
December – Reversible Drum Vacs now sweep up fluids with CE Compliance.

Keep your eyes open for continued new products throughout 2015.

On top of all the new product releases, we had quite a bit of change in our offices as well.   In February, I was appointed as the new Application Engineer Manager, this was made possible by Kirk Edwards becoming the Director of Sales and Marketing.  In March we welcomed Justin Nicholl as a new Application Engineer to the team.  In April we said goodbye to one of our most experienced Application Engineers with Joe Panfalone retiring (HR has had it easy ever since).  Then in October we welcomed John Ball to our International Application Engineer department.  So needless to say we have been busy here.

At home, I recently welcomed my third daughter into the world the weekend after Thanksgiving and the house hasn’t been the same since.   If you notice I start to blog more about unicorns and glitter, then you will know that I haven’t gotten out of the house that much.

For the 19th consecutive year we recorded a 99.9% on time shipping record (it was actually 99.97%!) and we have to thank all of our customer service, production and shipping/receiving folks for all they do to keep our performance at that level – amazing!

Our social media efforts included 269 blogs, increasing our YouTube channel videos to 52, started a G+ page, and even kept Professor Penurious (and his videos) around for another year. We expanded our website Knowledge Base by adding 6 more case studies, increasing our FAQ’s and updating the PowerPoint presentations available for download.

All of this action made for a fantastic 2014. We thank all of you for doing business with EXAIR and appreciating our quirks (aka Professor Penurious/our individual Twitter accounts).  May your 2015 be a great year.
