The other day I was talking with my co-worker Russ Bowman about my oldest son’s recent string of success at school (okay I was bragging). I was telling him that the other night we were going over some of his schoolwork to get him ready for a science quiz he had the next day and how I was a little concerned because he was having some trouble retaining the information.
I spent an hour or so going over things with my son when I decided he was about as prepared as he was going to be for the test. When I picked him up the next day after work, the conversation went something like this:
Me: “So tell me dude, how’d you do on your science test today?”
Son: “I think I did OK dad, wasn’t too bad.”
Me: cringing a little… “Too bad huh? Well when do you find out your score?”
Son: “Next week sometime, BUT I did find out that I scored a 100 on my spelling test, for the TWENTIETH time in a row!”
Me: “Spelling test, you didn’t tell me about the spelling test??? You really got a 100 for the 20th consecutive time?”
Son: “Yup, so what do I get?”
Me: “What do you get? Sounds like you get an A+!!!”
When I was telling Russ this part of the story and sort of reliving the moment, it dawned on me (with a little help from Russ)….. you know what, getting a perfect score on a test, TWENTY times in a row is an awesome accomplishment for a 9 year old, maybe he does deserve something special for that. So I guess I’ll be heading to the sporting goods store in the very near future.
See, I don’t really have to worry about my son’s schoolwork because he takes it on himself to do well. In fact, he’s usually more upset with himself if he brings home anything less than an A. In 1st grade, he made what his school calls the “Administrator’s List” for elementary school students who maintain an A/B average and have great attendance. Last year in 2nd grade, he set a goal for himself to make the “Pastor’s List” which is the highest honor the school awards for students with a straight A average for the entire year and he made it happen! This year, he hopes to do it again and the way things are going, I think he’ll be just fine.

Whether you’re looking to upgrade an existing blowoff in order to lower noise or air consumption or you’d like to talk to an application engineer about solving a specific process problem, contact our team and let us get to work for you.
Drilled pipes, like the one shown above, are all too common in industrial settings for processes where a wide surface area needs to be treated. Their popularity can be attributed to how cheap and easy they are to make but in actuality they are very expensive to operate, as they waste large amounts of compressed air, and are very dangerous to operate.
We frequently take calls from customers looking for a more energy efficient, safer solution to replace these types of blowoffs. EXAIR manufactures 3 different styles of Air Knife – the Super, Standard and Full-Flow – that are the ideal solution for wide coverage applications. Today, I would like to provide an overview of our award wining Super Air Knife.
The Super Air Knife is our most efficient air knife in regards to compressed air usage, using only 2.9 SCFM per inch of knife length @ 80 PSIG. It is also the quietest on the market today at only 69 decibels. The Super Air Knife provides the highest air velocity of the 3 styles offered by EXAIR and produces 2.5 ounces of force per inch at 80 PSIG operating pressure. We offer stock lengths from 3” up to 108” in single piece construction with available materials of aluminum, 303ss and 316ss. We also offer PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) up to 54” for harsh environments.
The Super Air Knife provides a laminar airflow across the entire length with hard-hitting force. They also give a 40:1 amplification rate meaning they entrain 40 parts of the surrounding room air for every 1 part of compressed air used, producing a large volume outlet flow.
For applications requiring an air knife length longer than 108″, we offer a coupling bracket kit that allows you to connect two Super Air Knives together for a seamless, uninterrupted flow. Kits are available in aluminum, 303ss or 316ss to match the construction of the knife.
In addition, we also offer plumbing kits as an accessory item. For aluminum Super Air Knives, we offer cut to length nitrile/PVC hose and brass fittings and for stainless steel and PVDF knives we offer 316ss cut-t0-length pipe and fittings.
If you have any questions on how the Super Air Knife might fit into your process, please contact an Application Engineer.
In this summer of 2016, we are nearing the beginning of one of the largest sporting events on the planet, The 2016 Summer Olympics. At the heart of this celebration will be sporting events of all kinds. And in the tradition of the Olympics there is always a gold, silver and bronze winner to award the top three athletes in each event.
EXAIR is participating in a competition as well. It isn’t one of a sporting nature, but rather, one of ingenuity and innovation. Flow Control Magazine holds an annual competition for innovations in new products available in industry and we have entered the No Drip Atomizing Nozzle into the competition.
In general, Atomizing Nozzles are used for the application of high value fluids within industrial processes. In some cases where the Atomizing Nozzles are mounted above the target, residual fluid that is left inside the nozzle body can drip out when de-energized and cause un-wanted blemishes on the target surface.
EXAIR No Drip Atomizing Nozzles allow for external adjustment of compressed air and liquid inputs to adjust the liquid spray flow rate as well as droplet size for a wide range of applications. That’s pretty common amongst atomizing nozzles in general. So what is so innovative about the No-Drip Atomizing Nozzles?
We have found a way to control the on/off function of the atomizing spray which supports the no-drip feature as well as the atomizing flow with only one compressed air supply. Most other manufacturers require a nozzle that has a separate control for the small valve within the nozzle and another for the airflow that atomizes the fluid coming through. It is this innovation that dramatically improves the simplicity with which these nozzles can be installed into an application and controlled through typical air automation techniques. It was innovative enough that the US Patent Office granted EXAIR a patent on the design (Patent # 9156045). So, we’ve made the No-Drip Atomizing Nozzle available with 3 different spray patterns and 14 different liquid volume options to suit a wide variety of application need. Operating pressures can fall anywhere between 30 – 250 PSIG to atomize fluids up to 300 centipoise.
If you agree with the US Patent Office on the innovation and think that EXAIR’s No Drip Atomizing Nozzles should be a winner in this competition, we would appreciate your official vote.
But if there’s a second constant around here, it’s excellence. And if there was a third, it was this guy…right up until the day he retired:
Another thing we don’t want to forget – in fact, I’m writing this as a reminder to YOU, dear reader, is that EXAIR products are up for ANOTHER four Plant Engineering Product of the Year Awards this year. If you haven’t familiarized yourself with this year’s entries yet, there are some VERY cool products to choose from, and I highly encourage you to check them out. (Disclaimer: I was an engineer BEFORE I came to EXAIR, and as such, I fully recognize the value that our esteemed colleagues bring to the table with THEIR entries, but I remain convinced that OURS are the clear winners here, as I’m sure you will too.)
Voting ends this Friday, January 8th 2016, so please hurry. We’re honored to have gotten the nod in four categories this year:
Automation and Controls: The competition is pretty stiff in this category…I’m sure you’ll recognize the names of some major players. But, considering the wide range of applications, the potential cost savings by regulating the use of compressed air, and the convenience afforded by the ETC Dual Cabinet Cooler Systems, it’s a real contender.
Environmental Health: With the ability to vacuum heavier tramp oils, thicker sludge, more viscous fluids, and “in the floor” cisterns, the High Lift Reversible Drum Vac makes fluid transfer and spill cleanup quick & easy. They’re in stock for 30, 55, or 110 gallon drums. If you want a drum dolly, additional vacuum tools, or even the drum itself, check out our Deluxe and Premium Kits. With all due respect to the other entries, it’s the clear winner in this category.
Compressed Air: This has been a long-awaited addition to our already broad selection of engineered air nozzles: the Back Blow Air Nozzles, available in two sizes, can handle blowing out pipe, tube, etc. with inside diameters from 7/8″ to 16″. You can get one installed on one of our Safety Air Guns, and they’re available with Chip Shields, and extension pipes up to 6 feet in length. This is the most innovative product being introduced in this category this year, for sure.
Fluid Handling: The patented design of the EXAIR No-Drip Atomizing Spray Nozzle offers a stand-alone nozzle capable of controlling liquid flow without requiring a liquid control solenoid. When the air supply pressure is shut off, so is the liquid flow…just like that.
This feature is available on any of our Atomizing Spray Nozzles. For safety, efficiency, cleanliness, it can’t be beat.
Remember, voting ends this Friday. I know there are some great products to choose from, but all of us at EXAIR would genuinely appreciate your vote for our products. Of course, if you ever have any questions about how these – or any of our Intelligent Compressed Air Products – can make life easier, give me a call.
As I write this blog I am waiting for my game console to finish a system update. Oddly enough it was able to flip some tiny switch in my brain that gave me today’s blog topic. EXAIR‘s brand new, updated, catalog has just been released this week!
Much like a software update is crucial, our catalog update is a vital step in the process of keeping all of our customers up to date on what we’ve been busy with over the past year. This years catalog has hundreds of new models and product offerings. Not to mention several new award winning products.
Not only does the catalog have all the model numbers and full color pictures of the product, but it also contains a vast majority of the technical data available on each product line.
So if you are still working with an older catalog from a few years ago, let us know and we’ll send you a brand new one out as quick as possible. If you can’t wait for the United States Post Office the PDF version of the catalog and each of it’s individual sections is available for free download from our site.
I know I was extremely happy to get mine on my desk and all the tabs in it. Hopefully it will bring some joy to other detail oriented engineers like Lee Evans mentioned in his blog post.
