A little while back, I was contacted by a customer who was looking for a way to clean chips and debris out of tapped holes in an engine block. They were familiar with our products, having used them in several different areas in their plant, and had done some early research into our Air Nozzles.
They were considering using our small M4 Back Blow Air Nozzle in the process. The Back Blow Air Nozzles produce a 360° airflow that blows away from the end of the nozzle and in many cases, are the ideal solution for treating the inside diameter of hose, pipe, machined holes, etc. These unique nozzles, eliminate the concern of forcing particulate further down into a machined hole or the safety issue of blowing material out of the opposite end of an open tube or pipe.
In this particular case, having the material blown out of the hole increased the risk of possible cross contamination somewhere else in the engine block so they were also thinking of incorporating some type of recovery system like our Chip Vac or one of our Line Vacs but were concerned with having to use two separate devices.
Once again, EXAIR has the perfect solution, the Deep Hole Vac-u-Gun. The Deep Hole Vac-u-Gun features a small blow tube (1/8″ OD) that provides a small blast of air to dislodge or loosen foreign material while simultaneously providing vacuum to carry the debris away.
If you have a similar application or would like to discuss how an EXAIR Intelligent Compressed Air Product can help solve a unique situation, contact an application engineer for assistance.
Below is a video showcasing the model 6850 Drum Cover. The Drum Cover is a new product from EXAIR that will help to filter pneumatically conveyed products from the air used to move them. If you would like to discuss a conveyance application or whether this product would fit your need, please contact an Application Engineer.
An electronics component manufacturer produces high quality, flexible and rigid printed circuit boards (PCB’s) for a wide range of applications.. They were looking for a more reliable solution to clean dust particles from their DIMM or Dual In-Line Memory Module sockets on PCB’s. This particular process is very critical as any dust or debris that remains in the socket, will cause them to fail inspection and the need to be reworked or ultimately considered lost product and remanufactured.
They were currently using compressed air blowing through a small open tube to blow out the sockets. While this was successful in some cases, in others they were seeing the blown particulate settle in another location on the board which would lead to the conditions mentioned above. Their thinking was to have a system where they could blow out the small areas on the circuits, while also having a way to vacuum or carry the particulate away from the area. They were looking into a traditional vacuum hood system but these units tend to be for larger industrial type applications where their process was a much smaller scale ranging from 50mm up to 200mm. Another concern was with the boards being so small and lightweight , the vacuum system may try to vacuum the PCB’s themselves.
After discussing the details of the application, I recommended they use our Deep Hole Vac-u-Gun in the application. The Deep Hole Vac-u-Gun features a small blow tube that upon squeezing the trigger, provides a burst of air to lift or loosen dust or particulate trapped in small holes or cavities. The unit simultaneously provides vacuum that is able to collect the released fines and carry them away from the area, removing the potential for further contamination.

A couple weeks ago I wrote a blog titled, Spring Cleaning All Around, outlining just a few of the many features of our Industrial Housekeeping Products. All of these products are compressed air operated, have no moving parts and require no electricity, making them a safe and virtually maintenance free option for industrial clean up.
We are currently running a promotional offer, where if you purchase one of these products by May 31, 2015, we will include a FREE Vac-U-Gun, a $98 Value!!! (Use the promotional model number within the promo to receive the offer).
The Vac-u-Gun can be used as a blow gun, vacuum or for product transfer. Using only 13 SCFM @ 80 PSIG of compressed air, the unit produces a high output airflow on one end and creates a vacuum on the other end. In blow off mode, the unit provides 9 ounces of high velocity, forceful airflow. By changing the orientation of the nozzle insert, the unit can be converted into vacuum mode, producing -29.5″ H20 vacuum, use the bag attachment for general clean up. The output end can be connected to an 1-1/4″ smooth bore hose, allowing for the transferring of dry media. Again, there are no moving parts or electricity required to operate, so you get the convenience of 3 separate tools all in one single, safe hand held device!
These are two words that have been important parts of my vocabulary for most of my life. As a long time fast-food burger connoisseur, these words mean I’m getting something other than a hastily cooked ground beef patty on an enriched white flour bun that may or may not have been sitting under a heat lamp for a specific period of time. If you’re anywhere near as familiar with drive-thru cuisine as I am, you’ll know that “Deluxe” usually means a variety of toppings has been added to an otherwise relatively plain sandwich…it’s been “run through the garden,” if you will. And “Premium” can mean anything from a special bun, gourmet cheese, up-scale meat, and/or the addition of bacon…they ALWAYS get me at bacon…
EXAIR’s Industrial Vacuums are also available in Deluxe and Premium Kits. Now, if you’ve already got a drum, our standard Kits will quickly and economically turn that drum into a powerful, fast, and efficient vacuum system, without the need for anything fancy. If you’re looking for complete, comprehensive clean up solutions, though, our Deluxe Kits add a drum dolly, a tool holder, and additional tools. The Premium Kits also include a durable steel drum and a set of Heavy Duty Aluminum Tools.
Whatever your needs are, we’ve got an efficient, quiet, durable, long-lasting, maintenance-free vacuum system for you. Our Reversible Drum Vac will empty…or fill…a 55 gallon drum in 90 seconds (tested with water.) Our new High Lift Reversible Drum Vac pumps that same 55 gallons in just 85 seconds, with up to 15 feet of suction head. Then, of course, the Chip Trapper uses our Reversible Drum Vac technology to filter and extend the life of your machine tool coolants, lubricating oils, etc.
For solids vacuuming situations, our Chip Vac picks up wet or dry chips, debris, etc., and deposits them directly into the drum. This is the function of the Heavy Duty Dry Vac as well. It’s more powerful than the Chip Vac, for use with heavier debris, and it’s made of a hardened alloy for superior abrasion resistance. The Heavy Duty HEPA Vac delivers the same high performance, with a high efficiency filter for total dust containment.
Whatever your Industrial Vacuum needs are, we’ve got a solution for you. And if you order before the end of March, we’ll throw in a FREE Vac-u-Gun…our lightweight and portable vacuum gun, blow gun, and transfer tool, all in one. Call me to find out more.
I visited my doctor recently for my annual check-up. During the exam, he lamented that a lot of his patients didn’t take the importance of preventive care seriously enough. I joked that I’m actually one of those people, but since my health care insurance covers an annual check-up at no charge to me, I do it simply because I’m a sucker for free stuff. Again, I was JOKING…I firmly believe in the importance of preventive health care, and strongly encourage you, dear reader, to do the same and get annual check-ups.
Well, I was HALF joking, anyway…I AM a sucker for free stuff. In fact, my doctor and I went on to talk about how effective free stuff (like t-shirts) was at getting consumers to sign up for new credit cards, magazine subscriptions, etc. We had a good laugh, and I kept laughing…until I got home and looked in my t-shirt drawer…
Of course, these kinds of promotions can be great advertising – that’s obviously why they’re so popular, and at EXAIR, we’re keenly aware of that. Now, you can’t wear our free stuff for everyone to see, but, in the case of our current seasonal promotion, you can get something very useful for free:
Through May 31st, we’re so intent on helping you get into Spring Cleaning mode that, with the purchase of one of our Industrial Vacuums, we’ll give you a FREE Vac-u-Gun. How can an efficient, quiet compressed air operated Industrial Vacuum help get your spring cleaning into full swing? If you need help answering that question, give me a call. They’re all in stock, and we ship same day (U.S.) with orders received by 3pm EST.
On a recent trip to India, I had the opportunity to visit a few of our end user clients in the field to see how they were using our products. On one occasion, we visited a tractor assembly plant. One department in the plant was responsible for machining the finished surfaces of the cast iron parts that made up the sub-frame of the tractor. The surfaces that mated together needed to have a finish cut made on them so that the gaskets used could seal properly on a flat surface.
The original problem was that once a part was completed with the machining cycle, the cast iron chips remained in the fixture that holds the part. This material interfered with proper mounting of the next raw part into the machining fixture. The customer then tried the EXAIR Chip Vac System to remove the chips from their fixture between each cycle. The Chip Vac System performed excellently for this task. And so the customer decided to up-fit all of their machining centers with Chip Vac Systems.
They could turn their existing 55 gallon, open top drum in to a collection tank by applying the Chip Vac lid and filter assembly. The drums were not being used prior to applying Chip Vac, so it was viewed as a good re-purposing of the drums.
There are no moving parts to wear out with the Chip Vac. Motors, brushes and impellers used on traditional electric vacs simply do not stand up to industrial use as in these cases.
The sound level produced by a Chip Vac is far lower than an electric vacuum. There are presently no such ministry of health rule in India which govern this issue, but the operators were definitely happy about less noise and so was the shop foreman.
The 10 ft. hose easily reached inside the machine center to allow for quick and easy access to the fixture for vacuuming task.
EXAIR is a company who developed our Industrial Housekeeping Products out of need in our machine shop to have reliable products which were convenient to use. It is always good to see when others who have similar needs, use our product for the same kinds of problems we encounter when working in our own production areas.
