Promos, Freebies, and Some Amazing Products

Like many companies, here at EXAIR we generally always have a promotional offering.  These rotate throughout the months and this month is no different.  The current offering involves the EXAIR Cold Gun Aircoolant Systems.

These systems help to reduce cutting fluid use, increase production speeds, increase tool life, and has helped more customers than I know.  One customer in particular is a maintenance worker from a welded tube manufacturer.  This facility had very little amount of downtime permitted due to the high efficiency and high volume of orders.  When a machine went down the maintenance team were in like a trauma team to determine the cause of failure and get it remedied to get the line back up and running. One of the biggest problems they would have is when they would have to dry machine a quick part to get the machine back up and running, this would either ruin tools or they would have to slow down the machining time to get the surface finish and dimensions they truly needed.  After talking with us the team ordered a Single Point Cold Gun Aircoolant System as these parts were generally smaller shafts or machine dogs.

They received the system in and sure enough a machine went down.  The crew went to work and once the part needed was found they got to work on their lathe trying to make a new piece.  The Cold Gun held itself straight to the headstock thanks to the integrated magnet and the flexible single point hose kit routed the cold air straight to the cutting point.  They didn’t have to fill up the liquid tank or setup the mist system on the lathe, they simply turned on the compressed air and let the lathe do the work.  They were able to take what had recently been around a three hour machine job with heavy wear on tooling to a two hour job, no finish pass was needed on the part, and their tools weren’t completely spent by the end of the job.

They got the part back into the machine, made adjustments, and then went to work getting the machine back into production.

Right now, if you would like to try out a Cold Gun Aircoolant System you can order before 12/31/2019 and use the link to order through our promotion in order to receive a free Dual Point Hose Kit with your qualified purchase.

EXAIR’s Adjustable Spot Cooler: A Versatile Tool for Your Cooling Needs!

If you’re looking at replacing messy coolant mist systems, look no further than the Adjustable Spot Cooler. EXAIR’s Adjustable Spot Cooler incorporates Vortex Tube technology to produce temperatures ranging from -30°F – +70°F. A Vortex Tube works by imparting a rapid spinning motion to the supplied compressed air. This airflow makes its way to the end of the tube where it is forced to abruptly change directions. It is during this change of direction that energy is given off in the form of heat. The hot air then exits the tube from the hot end, while cold air exits the other end of the tube. As the valve is opened to allow more air to exhaust from the hot end, the temperature at the cold end will decrease. At a sound level of just 73 dBA when operated at 100 psig and stock generator installed, this compact cooler will keep your operation cool, clean and dry without causing unnecessarily high noise levels.

Critical tolerances are maintained on plastic parts using the Adjustable Spot Cooler

When looking at a Vortex Tube based solution, the variety of options can sometimes be daunting. This is where the versatility of the Adjustable Spot Cooler shines. Through a simple turn of the control knob, you can easily adjust the temperature and cold fraction of the unit. Additionally, the kits come with (2) extra generators (15-H and 30-H) that can be swapped out for the stock generator for more/less cooling power and air consumption. The 15-H generator will deliver up to 1,000 Btu/hr of cooling capacity and the 30-H will provide up to 2,000 Btu/hr of cooling capacity. We have (2) different kits available, the Model 3825 Single Point and the Model 3925 Dual Point Kit. The 3825 is recommended for use in applications where you’re cooling a small surface such as solder joints, hot melts, or drilled plastics. The 3925 system is better served when heat is generated over a larger surface area such as saw blade cooling. The kits use flexible Loc-Line hose to allow you to precisely position the cold airflow onto your target. The Adjustable Spot Cooler provides easy mounting with a swivel magnetic base, allowing you to mount the cooler directly at the most critical point that heat is being generated.

EXAIR At BI-MU With Italian Distributor

Lee with Magugliani team
Myself, Lee Evans, with the Magugliani team.

I had the pleasure of attending the BI-MU exhibition with our Italian distributor, Magugliani SRL, from September 30th – October 4th in Milan, Italy.  BI-MU is an exhibition dedicated to the Italian machine tool, robot, and automation industries.  And, our distributor is very keen on finding relevant applications and solving problems in these industries.

Adjustable Spot Cooler
An EXAIR Adjustable Spot Cooler w/ Single Outlet Hose Kit.

One of the most frequent applications we discussed was the use of the Adjustable Spot Cooler.  During milling operations or in lathe turning applications, considerable heat is generated when the cutting edge is applied to the work piece.  This heat can cause the metal (or other material being machined) to adhere or even weld to the cutting edge or flute of a bit.  Such a  condition presents quality control problems, and loss concerns due to machine tool downtime.

The Adjustable Spot Cooler can remove these problems from a machining application using only compressed air – no liquid.  By directing extremely cold air (as low as -30F) to the machining area, the heat is removed and the useful time of the cutting edge is in increased.  By cooling the precise area generating the heat, the Adjustable Spot Cooler can boost the productivity and quality of parts coming out of a machine.

If you have a similar application, or think an Adjustable Spot Cooler may be a positive addition to your application, contact an EXAIR Application Engineer.
