A new solution to an old problem. Heat build up on dry machining operations reduces tool life and machining rates. The Cold Gun Aircoolant System produces a stream of clean, cold air at 50°F (28°C) below supply air temperature. Operation is quiet and there are no moving parts to wear out. It will remove heat to prolong tool life and increase productivity on machining operations when liquid coolants cannot be used.
The Cold Gun is also an alternative to expensive mist systems. It eliminates the costs associated with the purchase and disposal of cutting fluids and worker related health problems from breathing airborne coolants or slipping on wet shop floors.
EXAIR offers two types, the Cold Gun and the High Power Cold Gun. The High Power Cold Gun blows twice the amount of cold air as the Cold Gun which doubles the cooling capacity. They come standard with either a Single Point or a Dual Point Hose Kit with a cone and flat nozzle. All systems come with a magnetic base and a filter separator. The magnetic base makes this device simple to attach to your machine and start using.
Many machining companies like to use coolant to flood their parts for drilling and milling operations. But what if there was an alternative way? EXAIR has an interesting technique by using cold air instead of coolant. This would help save time by eliminating cleaning and drying of parts as well as reducing coolant waste. EXAIR calls this product our Cold Gun Aircoolant System™.
The Cold Gun Aircoolant System uses a Vortex Tube to produce a cold air stream at 50oF (28oC) below supply air temperature. Heat is one of the major causes for dulling and premature failures for tools, and by blowing cold air, it will reduce the heat buildup in tools while also removing the chips from the surface. The EXAIR Cold Guns are very compact, portable, and easy to use. Just attach compressed air to the unit, and it will produce cold air. Since they do not have any moving parts, Freon, or electricity to operate, it is maintenance-free and long-lasting. And, EXAIR offers a 5 year “Built To Last” warranty against defects in workmanship and materials. These systems will extend tool life, improve tolerance control, and increase production rates by replacing coolant during milling, cutting, and drilling operations.
The benefits of using the Cold Gun Aircoolant System extends beyond reducing tool wear, finishing with dry parts, and surface smearing. It can be used in applications where liquid coolant cannot be used. This would include wood products, MDF, and plastics. As insulators, cutting tools will get extremely hot as the material will not remove any heat like with metal chips. Thus, machining can soften, gall, or burn the surface of the material; allowing only slow speeds for operations. The cold air from the Cold Gun can keep the tools sharp and the materials hard and firm. With plastic materials, this is very beneficial as it will keep the plastic rigid for tight tolerance machining. If burnishing or scoring is occurring, the Cold Gun Aircoolant Systems can help to improve the surface finish of your product. Other applications would include surface grinders, laser cutters, hot melt setting, and band saws. The Cold Gun Aircoolant Systems are a low-cost solution that can do a lot of great things to improve processes.
The Super Air Knife is the latest generation of the EXAIR engineered air knives with dramatically reduced compressed air usage and noise compared to other types of blowoffs. The Super Air Knife is truly a more efficient tool for cleaning, drying or cooling parts, webs, or conveyors. The air flow is a uniform sheet of laminar air across the entire length with a hard-hitting force.
Replacing a noisy blowoff with a Super Air Knife results is a significant reduction in sound. Operation at a high pressure of 80 PSIG (5.5 Bar) leads to a sound level of just 69 dBA for most applications. Air amplification ratios (entrained air to compressed air) of 40:1 is produced. It also meets OSHA maximum dead-end pressure and noise requirements, for safe operation in the vicinity of plant personnel.
Typical applications for use include-
Post wash part drying
Sheet cleaning in strip mills
Part or component cooling
Web drying or cleaning
Environmental separation (air curtain)
Pre-paint blowoff and cleaning
Bag opening/filling operations
Scrap removal on converting operations

I’ve got a stack of plastic in my wallet. No; it’s not credit cards…I learned my lesson (and paid my tuition) at that school long ago. See, these are the ubiquitous “rewards” type cards…the ones that get you discounts, “points” for use at future purchases, etc., when you present it to the cashier at the time of your current purchase. While I’m perfectly happy to take advantage of the savings on stuff I’m going to buy anyway, I also know that the business who gave me that card is tracking my purchases (along with everyone else’s, very likely including you, dear reader) in order to position product, set pricing, more effectively advertise, and otherwise promote their goods and/or services in the most profitable manner.
Over the course of the past week, the card that I use at my favorite lunchtime (and…full disclosure: other times too) sandwich shop has netted me a coupon, printed on my receipt for a nice discount on my next meal there. It’s only good for the next four days following, so I have to be mindful to “use it or lose it.” Which is about as likely as anyone in my household finding out what the ill effects of letting ice cream reach its expiration date in our freezer.
But I digress…back to the sandwiches. I’m currently 3 for 3 on the coupon deals. I know, in my heart of hearts, that they will not last forever. I’m not going to lie to you; that’s going to be a hard day. But I’ll manage – I do covet your thoughts and well wishes, though.
We don’t have an EXAIR “rewards” card…
…but we do want to help you take full advantage of “deals” that can net you big savings. The biggest of these, by far, is in the amount of compressed air our Intelligent Compressed Air Products can save you, if you’re currently using non-engineered, commercial-grade or even homemade blow off devices. For more on how we’ve helped others with this, check out our Knowledge Base’s Application Database (registration required.) For specific details on how much we’ve helped some of them save, I refer you to our Case Study Library.
Speaking of Case Studies, that’s another way we can help you save. If you have an application where we can possibly quantify the benefits of replacing your current method with an EXAIR solution, successful participation in a Case Study will get you a credit on your recent purchase, or a discount on your next. Give me a call if you want to know more.
If you’re a fan of free stuff, we also run promotions from time to time…like the two we’re running right now:
