Do You Need 30 Days for Testing?

Not long ago while checking out of a motel my laptop bag that was attached to the handle on my suitcase fell forward and the impact shattered the screen on the laptop.  Upon turning the computer on I realized that a new screen was in order.

I waited until I arrived at home and found what I thought to be the correct monitor and quickly ordered it.  It arrived two days later and I painstakingly took the laptop apart and exposed the mounting frame.  The removal of the broken screen and the installation of the new was not too difficult but the cable connector was less than robust and was very tight.  Carefully I worked it back and forth and it came free.

Installation and reassembly went quickly and then I powered up the machine.  I was only greeted with a series of very loud and annoying beeps.  At that point I shut it down and called the company I purchased the screen from and described the issue.  They determined that the resolution of the screen was incorrect for my laptop and that I needed a different model.  They said I could return the incorrect one and upon inspection receive a credit less the return shipping.  At that point I ordered the correct screen and packaged up the wrong one and dropped it off at the parcel delivery service.

The new model arrived and it installed easily and worked perfectly.  I waited patiently and never did see a refund so I called the company and they said that it was an oversight on their end and that it would be corrected within 48 hours.  Sure enough they issued the credit and money was credited back to my account with one exception, the 40% restocking fee!

I can tell you that EXAIR is not that way!  If you order the wrong item or are not satisfied for any reason and the item was purchased within the last 30 days we will facilitate the return and ZERO restocking fee. There are a multitude of reasons our customers would want to take advantage of our 30 day guarantee and we make it a simple transaction if you need to take advantage of it too. Testing is one reason a customer would use this 30 days, other customers may have ordered incorrectly or released product inadvertently, they may have wanted a small sample for a meeting or demonstration at a customers location.

The Best Company Policy Is Right Here At EXAIR

All companies have policies. Some have a LOT. Others may not have enough. Some emphasize documenting every single action. Others write down the basics, and rely on “unwritten mutual understandings” for the rest…

We don't call it "yelling;" we call it "stuff you should already know."
We don’t call it “yelling;” we call it “stuff you should already know.”

At EXAIR, we have one core policy: to be easy to do business with. This has served the company well for thirty one years now, and I don’t expect it to be supplanted with anything else, anytime soon. Now, it may seem vague or ambiguous, but we’re quite specific, and diligent, in our methods of adhering to this one core policy:

Easy to find technical information: We offer complete specifications, performance data, dimensions, and application information for any EXAIR compressed air product on our website, and in our catalog. If you have specific questions, a team of the most knowledgeable and experienced Application Engineers in the business are standing by.

Easy to contact technical support: You can reach an Application Engineer immediately by phone or Live Chat. Emails to techelp@exair.com are also given prompt attention. We have a number of tools at our disposal, including a comprehensive test facility that we call the Efficiency Lab…if you have an operational question that we haven’t answered yet, we’ll find the answer in short order.

Easy to get products: If it’s got a part # in our catalog, it’s in stock, and available for same day shipment. Exceptions are some of our longer Air Knife products, which may take one day to ship. We can even manufacture custom length Air Knives, and ship them in only three days. Just so you know, we’re finishing up our 19th consecutive year with a 99.9% on-time shipment record.

Easy to solve applications: This is where the rubber hits the road, once we’ve made it easy to select and obtain your EXAIR product. Those same Application Engineers are ready to assist with any questions you may have about installation, operation, “tips and tricks,” etc. We’ve got an Application Database (registration required for access) that details over 1,000 successful uses of our products. Odds are, one of them is close enough to your situation to help shed some light.

Easy to solve applications, part 2: If, for any reason, the EXAIR product you buy doesn’t work out for you, we offer a 30 Day Unconditional Guarantee on all catalog products. Whether you want to get the next larger or next smaller product, a different one, or go another direction altogether, you’re not stuck with your first purchase…we’ll arrange return for full credit.

Easy to help us help the next person…and yourself: We’re keenly interested in knowing how our products work in specific applications. If you’ve put an EXAIR product to the test, and found that it’s saving you time or money, cutting your air consumption or noise levels, increasing production or safety, or any other quantifiable benefit, you may qualify for participation in a Case Study. Not only will that allow us to better apply our products, we’ve got something for you if you provide a case study for EXAIR.

If you’ve got an application that an EXAIR Intelligent Compressed Air Product may be the solution to, give me a call and find out how easy we can make it work for you.

Think You’re Too Busy? Think Again.

The first half of Knothole Baseball season is drawing to a close this weekend.  This means that teams are in a mad scramble to make up all the rained out games that are par for the course, when you schedule springtime outdoor events in the more temperate climate regions of the American Midwest.  If the weather holds, that means eight games in six days, between the two baseball players that live in my house.  Now, I LIKE baseball, so, when their mother pointed this out to me with a dire look of frustration in her eyes, I thought it best to hide my excitement…lest I incur her wrath, along with Mother Nature and a couple of coaches.  By the way,Todd & Ryan: you should know it’s nothing personal, and she thinks the world of both of you.

So, we’re busy right now.  I mean, do the math: Eight games in six days means we’re unlikely to both be able to attend them all.  I’m going to try, of course…because of the divisions they play in and the layout of our local ballpark, they very likely could be playing on adjacent fields Saturday afternoon.  That’s MY kind of double-header!

I know we’re not the only ones who are busy right now either, personally or professionally.  Of course, professionally, busy-ness is kind of the goal, right?  That’s why it’s important to be as efficient as possible.  I had the pleasure of discussing an application with the operator of a fabrication shop this morning: After drilling & tapping a series of blind holes in a part, it gets washed & rinsed, and then blown off to remove the residual rinse water.  Problem is, it’s time consuming to blow out a couple dozen irregularly spaced holes on a couple hundred parts, each and every day, by hand.  And frankly, the tedium associated with the process means that holes are likely going to be missed, and even the ones that get blown out might not get 100% dry.

Their idea is to use a Super Air Knife to blow a high velocity “curtain” of air over the entire area where the holes are located…their maximum spacing is only about 8” from side to side, and they thought a 12” wide air flow pattern would be ideal, since they might have an inch or so “play” in the way the parts will pass through.  I recommended our Model 110212 12” Aluminum Super Air Knife Kit.

Like I said, though, they’re busy right now, so they don’t want to throw a bunch of time and labor at coming up with a way to install and test equipment that they have no experience with.  That’s where the total engineering of our Intelligent Compressed Air Products comes in:

Our Super Air Knives are designed to be the most efficient and quietest in the industry…we back that up with our Efficiency Lab (where your existing products can be tested by our experts, using our precision calibrated instrumentation) and our 30 Day Unconditional Guarantee (where you can see for yourself, in real time, how EXAIR’s Intelligent Compressed Air Products are better, quieter, and safer than what you’re using right now.)  Not only that, but our Engineering and Production folks have combined their knowledge and resources to also make them easy to install and operate:  They’re compact and lightweight.  They have multiple ports to plumb compressed air to, and tapped holes running their entire length to use for easy mounting.  We’ve got Universal Air Knife Mounting Systems that require only one hole to secure a ½”-13 bolt, and installation is done…you can position and reposition it all via two thumbscrews.  Longer length Super Air Knives are available with Plumbing Kits Installed, so your compressed air supply lines are simplified.  And we keep it all in stock, so you can try it out, right now.

I won’t lie to you…blowing water out of blind holes is a tough application.  But they already know that.  After our conversation this morning, they also know how “low impact” (their words) a trial of the Super Air Knife will be.  I thought you should know too.

Do you have something in mind for a compressed air application that you don’t think you have time for?  Give us a call – you might be pleasantly surprised.

Keep Your Air Clean

I have been reading Kyle Thill’s blog over at Toyota Forklift, and he often speaks about the benefits of preventative maintenance and service schedule. With our products preventative maintenance can be the last thing on anyone’s mind, but it is important work to keep your compressed air systems clean and dry. Today I received a reminder of this.

We received a Heavy Duty Line Vac back from a customer today, who had taken us up on our offer of a 30 day Unconditional Guarantee.  It was no problem for us to take the unit back, but as we were taking it apart, we received a gentle reminder how important it is to use clean dry air with our products and to use compressed air filters on your compressed air lines.

On the right, we have a photo for Heavy Duty Line Vac for reference.  As you can see, a new Heavy Duty Line Vac will have clean metal surface inside the inlet.  When our quality department inspected the used unit returned from the customer, we found this pile of rust particles that had been deposited inside the unit, right at the air inlet position.  One of the reasons filters are so important with new equipment is that the increased load can dislodge contaminants that may have been building up inside old compressed air lines.  The other reason we always recommend compressed air filtration is because filters prevent debris from ending up on anything you blow off, cool, move or coat with our products.  Compressed air lines can carry oxidized metal, water or oil contaminants, which can be easily removed to ensure your products and ours are kept clean.

The Return (or Lack Thereof) of The Better Mousetrap

You may know that EXAIR offers a 30-Day Unconditional Guarantee on all of our catalog products. It’s pretty simple: we let you test-drive one of our Intelligent Compressed Air Products for a month…if it works for you, keep it. In fact, buy more; tell your friends; and most importantly (and seriously) call us if we can help further. If it doesn’t work like you wanted, call us, and we’ll take it back. It really is just that easy.

I was researching some information on our Chip Trapper yesterday, and found more than I was looking for. If you’re not familiar with it, the EXAIR Chip Trapper filters chips (and swarf, shavings, etc.) from a machine’s coolant or oil sump. This video shows how it works:

The Chip Trapper won Plant Engineering’s Product of the Year Award when it was introduced in 2009. In 2010, it was a finalist in the Golden Mousetrap “Best New Products” Awards.  And the hits keep on coming: the recently introduced 110-Gallon version got Environmental Protection Magazine’s “2011 New Product of the Year” Award, just last month.  Perhaps the best-kept secret is that it’s available in a 30-Gallon size as well.  That one hasn’t been singled out for an award…yet.  The results are in; the Chip Trapper has proven itself to be a popular addition to our Industrial Housekeeping Products line.

What got my attention during my research, though, was how seldom Chip Trappers get returned. Based on that evidence and feedback from our customers, the Chip Trapper is doing what we say it will do and clearly creating happy customers. To me, that was just as impressive as the accolades it’s received from The Authorities. Maybe even more so.

If you’re one of the multitude that’s using a Chip Trapper successfully, we’d like to hear from you. What (if anything) were you using before? How has the Chip Trapper improved your operation? Are you saving money on coolant? Are you spending less time on maintenance, and more on machine operation? Or are you just shirking your responsibilities and waiting for someone else to ship it back? I hope that’s not the case…as great as the Chip Trapper is for coolant filtration, it’s a lousy paperweight.  Whatever the case, though, if you have a Chip Trapper success story, we’re all ears.  Thanks in advance!
